mshard I just wanted to say, same thing w me - slightly different story.

I missed a payment to Chase after 4 yrs of perfection with them, it was a human error and after the CSR was extremely rude to me I closed the account (Of course I know better now); not even 2 hrs after I closed it, I read online about how closing accounts is not a good thing - called them right back and begged for my account back and of course they said no.

I paid it to $0 immediately and somehow they lost my acct in their system (30 day late last july 07). I wrote them a GW a few mos ago and asked them to remove the late but since they lost my acct completely my only option was to have the entire thing wiped off my credit.

Anyway, blah blah I just wanted to say that I did the same thing, closed something I shouldn't have... it stings but pay as much as you can as fast as you can and move on.

I have asked this on another board, but would like to get opinoins from here as well..OK, here goes.

I have/had a credit card with Chase that I opened in 12/2005. Right after christmas of 2007, I went over my limit by $2. They tacked on the over the limit fee to my minimum payment and jacked up my rate from 8.9% to 22%. I called and ask them if there was anything that I could do and would they reconsider since it was only a couple of dollars that I went over the fee and since I had been good customer since Dec 2005? Of course, they said that there was nothing they can do and I would just have to pay it. But, if I paid consistently for 6 months, they would lower my apr. I said well doesnt it matter that I paid on time consistently since I opened my account in 12/2005? She said it didnt of course. It upset me enough to close my account right then and there. She was very nasty on the phone to me. Well, a couple months afterwards, I had second thoughts and called and ask them if I could reopen? They said no and sent me a letter stating no because of account performance. Well, I would still like to reopen it and it still carries a balance that I pay every month. I was just wondering if anybody had any advice on getting them to reopen it and if Chase will still lower my apr after the 6 months since the account is closed? I have learned a valuable lesson about carring a balance each month instead of paying in full. This was during Christmas and I over indulged, which happens sometimes. Just to add, I was never late and when charged the excess fees, I brought my account current as soon as getting off the phone with her that day. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Reopening this card will help with overall age, although it is not my oldest revolving tl. Thanks in advance for taking time to help me out....

if they say no to re-open that's probably it and no they won't lower apr if account is closed.

and having a balance on closed account is really hurting your util.

ok several things.

1. your best bet for getting it reopened is to either call a backdoor number (see the backdoor numbers thread above) or to send a letter asking them to reconsider your request. you might have better luck with this is you pay down the balance quite a bit.

2. as far as i know they will not lower your apr on a closed account. I believe that they lock in the apr when you do that. if i'm wrong someone please correct me.

3. you need to pay this off ASAP. this balance on a closed account does not look good.

4. you will most likely see a significant dip in your FICO scores so brace yourself now.
