My wife applied for the Apple card from Barclays. Was told it was not approved via the website but then we recieve a call later in the day supposedly from Barclays with a reference number and told to call back.. My wife calls and they ask her the usual verify questions and then tell her she is approved for 2k card but they want her to send them her Drivers Liscense, Social Security card, a utility bill and Bank Statements.

Funny thing is they want them mailed in. They will not accept it via fax or email. Does this sound legit? I mean I dont feel comfortable sending in bank statments at all and this sounds very fishy. I googled the number we called and alot of people say its a scam and others say this is a legit number. 1-866-469-5977

Anyone go through this with these guys?

When I got mine, got the 7-10 day message, then a few days later the website said declined. Got a call from a private number but could not talk. Called them back and they asked a bunch of questions and approved me. I have a fraud alert on my file so I am sure that was part of it. But they did not ask me to send anything, and I don't think that I would ever do something like what you were asked, just personal choice I guess though.

When I applied for the Arrival end of May I got a message to call back the exact same number. (just verified my phone log) I can confirm the number is legit. They left only the name of the person but not Barclays so I went online and stumbled across the strange comments as well. Decided not to ignore and call back but via Barclays main number and not the number on the voicemail. It was too suspicious for me...LOL.. It was only for verification purpose. I did not have to send in any docs.All that Barclays wanted to know if it was me that applied for the Arrival card.

On the contrary Chase when I apped for my Freedom asked to fax my SSN, passport and DL. At least this was possible via fax and not snail mail.

I think you should call the main number just to verify before sending anything in.

Banks are very stringent with their ID verification processes because most credit cards have 0 fraud liability. If it does turn out someone else applied for and used the card, banks are 100% on the hook for the missing money, not you.

It does get a bit inefficient at times, which is indirectly representative of inefficiency and/or redundancy in their company structure.

I suggest ignoring those websites that people say certain telephone numbers are scams. Some are legitimate telephone numbers and people are just so silly that they think anyone who rings from a bank must be fake.

@ac921ol wrote:
100% would call the EO and email the CEO. That is absurd to ask for that info mailed in. NO WAY WOULD I DO IT.

That's taking it too far just for something like this. A simple ring to customer service would be all that is needed. I'm not sure why people feel that mailing it in or asking for any of this is a scam. I've never been asked for a credit card, but one bank did ask for a bank statement to verify address and I didn't care that they saw the transactions or anything. Mail is just as secure as a fax or email; it would just take longer to get a decision for the card.

Well, I think fax is safer than email since once you send something via regular email (not fancy encrypted email), that information is pretty much out there in the inter-webs. I think we "feel" that email is safer because WE have some way to track that we sent it to a certain address, etc. Snail mail is perfectly safe (tracking wise) provided that you send it via certified and all that jazz. Of course, this is assuming that you're sending it to the correct address.
