Amex Delta skymiles

Today I stumbled upon a fourth Delta skymiles card that I never knew existed.

It has a substantially lower sign up bonus and is missing several perks of the other cards but also has a lower annual fee.

This is the basic card, it only earns miles but you don't free bad or priority (which isn't really prioirty) boarding

It's a low cost option for people who want to get around the MQD starting in January. Spend $25K on this card and you don't need to meet MQD spend on flights for medallion levels. No use to most people who frequent Delta.

Then it's better to spend the 150$ AF for the delta platinum, as that also gets you 10,000MQM's next to nullifying the MQD requirement (by spending $25K on the card). Pretty easy to reach silver at least.

Because it's not top priority pre-group1 boarding? (Like Discover's statement credit is not cash back!)

Correct. The Platinum might be the best value point of all Delta credit cards considering the companion certificate and MQMs that can be earned. Nobody seems to discuss the MQM bumps you can get for big spends over the year. You mention the 10K MQM for $25K spend but you can do that again at $50K for an additional 10K MQM. If you can spend $50K in year one with a 5K MQM sign up bonus you just received 25K MQM and that's Silver without flying one flight.

I also have the Delta Reserve for business and made the $60K spend for a total of 30K MQM so with both cards I received 50K MQM just on spend without the signup bonuses. My earned flight MQM made me Platinum easily. Have not missed an upgrade from coach in quite a while barring a few ATL to TPA legs (and that's 61 minutes in the air so who cares). I doubt I will ever reach Diamond but I really don't have the need nor do I want to fly the additional 50K MQM for the perks.

Serious Delta flyers (and large spenders) should consider one of the Reserve cards. The lounge access makes it worth the $450 AF if you fly enough.

and yes group 1 boarding is after Preboards, FC, Medaiilans.... basically you're in front of the last 1/4 of the plane LOL

I suppose that's based on Zones 2+ being the last of four? But Zones 2+ holds far more passengers of course. And I also tend to be first in Zone 1 rather than last. Not enjoying being elbowed and pushed around and trampled on by my fellow passengers down the aisles at boarding time, pushing in their carry-on overload wherever room is perceived, I have come to value the perks of travel cards such as priority boarding and free checked bags. It's a jungle out there with the road rage that people have been exhibiting since airlines started to charge baggage fees. A new norm, a rule rather than the exception, only rivaled by the use of cell phones!

Hey every bit helps, before i had medallion status and had to board in zone 1, I found that by the time zone 1 had boarded 75-80% of the people were on the plane. I don't really consider this priority. Either the Delta Reserve or AMEX Platinum Charge card should provide Sky Priority, now that would be a huge benefit.
