American Express Serve

Good way to get in with American Express or a waste of time? I have other major credit cards but for whatever reason I can not break through and get an American Express card. What are you thoughts on this product? Thanks!

This is what I thought but wasn't completely sure...So how do you do it? How do you get in with American Express? Before my recent app spree I'm sure that I had scores in the 700's, 1 baddie with Chase that is almost 7 years old, aaoa is probably 2.? years, just purchased a house, a car, and recieved credit cards from Chase dispite the baddie with them, discover, and several more. They just don't like me!

Just guessing here but house car, and cards may have been a lot of INQ's recently.

How many INQ's have you had in the last 12 months?

How many CC's in the same period?

Did you app Amex at the top of your spree or bottom?

@Myjourney I apped AMEX at the top of my spree, I knew they would be difficult to get if I had a lot of INQ's. I was still denied. Before I went on my CC spree I all of my INQ's were from my house mostly, I managed to purchase a new truck with only 2 INQ's. Now I have probably 20 something? No more apps for me for a long time...I will probably go after that AMEX after I'm done gardening just for the self gratification. lol.

Do you know if AMEX does recons? I have received the letter but I really didn't pay much attention to it. I'll let you know the reason they stated for the denial when I get home this evening.

Recons are not typically successful with AMEX and you will incur another HP if you went that route. The exception would be if something drastic or significant changed on your overall CR (or other items) from what was used in the review of your initial application.

+1. Which is why it's always best to wait till everything checks out fine before applying with Amex. Otherwise you're just wasting inquiries.

The reason for denial was too many inquiries. I had multiple INQ's for my mortgage loan, which should count at 1 INQ, right? And then 2 INQ's for my vehicle purchase this past summer. I had 0 INQ's in the 3 months before applying for AMEX. I mean it's not like I was searching for credit and posed a high risk..After applying and being denied for the AMEX I received multiple approvals from Chase, Discover, DCU, Duck Card, and many more. I just don't get it..Oh well.. I'll let my recent cards age and see what happens in 6 months or so.

I also REALLY want a CSP which would probably be more useful to me anyway..the AMEX card would be like dessert at this point.

Do you have any baddies on your telecheck credit report, american express uses this minor CRA as well as at least 1 major CRA. I applied several times before i realized that I had a baddie reporting on the telecheck report, it was paid but still reporting, once it fell off, I applied and was approved for PRG and Delta. Just something you might want to check into. YMMV

My guess is that your inquriies are all labeled as separate inquiries, which is why Amex declined you.

What would I say to the banks? How do I know if they are labeled incorrectly? Is this true of my auto loan as well?

get a copy of your credit report.

and you'll see your inquiries on file. Under each inquiry, there will be a comment section, such as "Auto loan. This inquiry is scheduled to continue on record until Mar 20XX" for example. Credit card inquiries usually are "Unspecified. This inquiry is scheduled to continue on record until....."

Sometimes the banks do not label the type of inquiry and just leave it as default, which is unspecified. In those scenarios they are regarded as separate inquiries and are not grouped together.

Thank you for your advice enharu!! I'm going to check my credit report right now. Do I just call the bank and tell them they their INQ is reporting on my credit report incorrectly and they will fix it? This could help my score tremindiously if this is the case.
