Venture One Upgrade!! So Cool!

I wanted to post this today before I forgot...a few days ago I went on the Cap One Chat and asked the rep if there were any upgrades on my 2 accts with them. A few months ago they upgraded my first Cap One Platinum (a year and a half old) to the Quicksilver. Not a great looking card, don't care for it too much because of the high apr. So I tried the chat a few days ago to see about my Green Cash Rewards card and apparently there was an upgrade there for the Venture One! This card and the Discover are the only two that are not in my wallet that I wanted so needless to say I couldn't tell the rep fast enough to make the change. Anyway, after a few verification questions it was done, sending my new card in the mail. The only reason why I felt the need to ask about this was because I received an auto increase on that acct from $2500 to $3000.

So with that being said, I didn't even know that you could get this card at a low $3000 limit, and I know the upgrade was done because when I log on instead of seeing my cash rewards balance I now see miles balance! So weird, not sure what the Venture One requirements are but I sure am glad I met them!!

Okay, my credit journey has been a bit abnormal but in a good way for me. My scores are not astronomical and impressive AT ALL! Across the board I would say that I am between 660-675 and I've been with those scores for some time now with the many inquiries (20-29) from new accounts. Not only that, but I have only been building my credit since last year July 2012 so I don't even have a long credit history either.

However, within this credit journey I have acquired an impressive lineup of AWESOME cards that I have been tending to carefully and making sure that I am not missing any payments at all. These are the cards that I have acquired since I started my journey:

Chase Freedom

Chase Southwest Airlines

Chase Sapphire Preferred

Barclays United Airways

Amex Green Charge

Amex Blue Cash Everyday

Venuture One (the latest)

I have more cards but these are the big hitters! TJ Maxx upgraded a card that I have had for a few months to a Mastercard version as well. I literally started with a Macy's denial when I applied in August 2012, received the card a few weeks later with $300 limit and today I am sitting on a that card with a $6000 limit! Not sure what I am doing, but I am doing it well! So happy to be a part of this forum, thanks for all of the advice!!!

Isn't the Venture One 1.25 points per $, whereas the Quicksilver you have (which is a higher-level card) is 1.5%? And the Cash Rewards is 1% + 0.5%.

They discontinued the cash rewards card, it's now the Quicksilver.

Yes, when they move the card over, I still had Cash Rewards program until yesterday. But to be clearer, in what way is this an upgrade? To me, it looks like going from 1.5% to 1.25% The Venture is an upgrade of sorts, don't see this as one. Am I missing something?

Mine was still the same program until a few weeks ago too and they applied the .5% already and changed it to the new program, I think they are just doing the convertions now.

I don't know how it's an upgrade though, unless there is some other sort of reward/extra miles offer that I'm not aware of.

Yeah, I don't see this as an upgrade. Going fro 1.5% to 1.25% is actually a cut to me. I was speaking with a rep who told me that with the Venture card you can use the rewards for anything travel related; hotels, car rentals, train ticket purchases, etc. I should have responded with; But cash back is always cash back and it is cash back on everything. I did at one point upgrade to the Venture card in the past, then I thought better of it and switched back. Interesting thing is that when I sign on now with the redesign of the website I see the card as being the Venture card. The rewards are still cash back though. I also must say, I think the card is gaudy, kinda ghetto blingy to me.

Well, the Venture is different because that does offer 2% (and has an annual fee). I still prefer Quicksilver as 1.5% cash back is more useful to me than something with full redemption only a travel. But the Venture One has no advantage that I can see.
