Combining Citi CL

Any recent experience on this? I would love to combine two citi cards both are not co-branded.

I just did that about 2 months ago, cancelled my citi platinum MC and moved the CL over to my Citi Dividend account, no problems, very easy, just call and ask.

OP - which two Citi CCs are you attempting to combine CLs and how old is each? Also, are there any active balances (or any promotional APR balance) on any of those two CCs?

I'm trying to move the hardly use Citi Platinum MC ('11) to the new City TY Preferred (aug)

I just talked to the CSR and she did it, granted both accounts were old and the one I closed had no usage for a few months, but when I did it they did not make a big deal out of it....Sorry I do not know what the criteria was, it just happened.....

If the recipient card is new, in this case your Citi TYP, it will likely not be doable or elegible. If it were post the 12-month mark, then yes. Their PC/CL consolidation policies tend to fluctuate frequently.

I just tried to do this as well. I called and asked to move my Platinum limit to my TY card and the CSR told me "they didn't have the technology to complete such a request" and "it's just not possible" which from your guys' stories is simply not true.

I've had REALLY poor customer service with Citi thus far, and this isn't helping. Anyone try the EO?

[Edit] Just spoke to the retentions department. They also said that "reallocating limits isn't possible at this time due to regulations" so I'm at a loss.

How old are the two Citi cards in your signature and where are you allocating CL to/from?

I'm trying to allocate from the Platinum which is about 2 years old to the Thank You card which was opened in June of this year.

As others have said, policies seem to change, or are perhaps not known.

When I tried to close and move my CL from my AA card I was originally told "No", then when transferred to a retention specialist, she said I could move all but $5K (which would have to stay in case I wanted to reopen the card. Which may not make a lot of sense but that is what she said). My AA card was 4 years old, all the others (I didn't specify a target) were less than 6 months old, so I don't know whether it would have gone through, and since she gave me a reasonable retention offer, I kept the card.
