Best mastercard to apply for?

It looks like chase is going to be converting my freedom mastercard to a visa pretty soon here if the rumors on the forum are true. I do a large amount of my grocery shopping at Sam's Club, and they only take mastercard and discover. I refuse to use my Discover card after a list of bad experiences with them, so I was wondering what good mastercard you would recommend to someone that doesnt travel? Thanks!

I'm looking at Bank of America's Better Balance Rewards for a balance transfer. Looks like a pretty decent card.

Barclays Sallie Mae is quite nice with 5% categories if you are not a heavy spender

I don't have a balance to transfer or that one would probably be good. It just seems like all the good rewards cards are either Visa or Amex. Which Sam's doesn't accept for who knows what reason.

does anyone know is there is earning cap for Barclays Sallie Mae card?

like, what is the maximum amount of reward point that you can get in a month/ year?

Is there any way to convert my NFL card to a Sallie Mae card does anyone know? Try and save myself a hard pull. I'm not going to apple either way until I have no other choice with my freedom card. But if I can just convert instead it would be awesome.

To add to Aaron's last question is the Arrival wmc able to be PC'd to the Sallie Mae after sufficient time has passed? Just curious.

There are monthly caps on the 5% categories ($250 for gas, $250 for groceries, $750 for bookstores including Amazon). I've never encountered any other cap on earning points.

Another nice thing about this card is that you get your points as soon as a purchase gets recorded, and they tell you how many points each purchase has earned.

I agree with the others who have said this is a terrific MC for everyday purchases, and though it does have some benefits tied to Sallie Mae, you don't have to be a student to have the card, and you can apply your benefits to cashback instead of paying off student loans.

It looks like since the NFL card and the Sally Mae cards are affinity cards they can't PC from one to the other. That kinda stinks! Looks like i'll be doing another application later on then!

Barclays will not PC Arrival to Sallie Mae. Only certain products can be PC'd and based on account elegibility.

It occured to me that if chase converts my card to visa they'll send it to my home address when I'm at school. So I decided to just apply for sally mae and get mychase freedom converted to visa so it wouldn't get moved over while I was away at school. So i went for it and got the dreaded application is under review message. Probably due to too many recent pulls, one of which is the NFL card. I'm on hold with them right now to see if they can move some of the nfl limit over to Sally Mae.

Just an update, after calling the recon line, they weren't willing to give me the Sally Mae because my NFL card is not 6 months old. So before applying for it know that they look at recent inqueries pretty strongly on this one based on what the analyst told me!

Back to the garden I go then! Probably for quite a while.

Yes this is pretty typical for Barclays. Sorry to hear they were not able to approve. You can always give it a try after you card is older than 6 months.

I'm probably just gonna stay in the garden for a while now. I'll just use debit or hope that chase doesn't convert my card on me by some miracle. All of my pulls have been in the last 2 years. So I need to wait and let some of them drop off before I do anything else I think.
