DCU Credit Card Question

I'm hoping to shop for an auto loan in the near future so I applied for a DCU credit card to build a relationship with them and was approved instantly (though it was for a very small $700 limit). I don't have any other accounts with them (checking, savings, etc.). In order to have a credit card with them, do I need to open a bank account? From what I've read, it seems that I have to become a member and make a small donation in order to get a credit card from them. Is this true?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you pretty much have to have a share account of some sort for any CU membership? Seems like a small price to pay, and it's pretty convenient between DCU's external transfers to pay from the internal share account unless you have some external Bill Pay I suppose which I never set up personally.

Yes, you need to become a 'member', with a shares account with a $5 hold on the funds for as long as you're a member.

If you are in certain areas, work for certain employers, or belong to certain groups, you may be eligible for free. I found my way into DCU when I worked for Digital many years ago. If you're not part of their "Field of Membership" there is a group you can join for a small fee.

They're definitely worth it. Not always the best offers, but usually worth considering, at least.

No. You must be a member for any of their products.

Nope, you have to join. Most of the accounts are free to have once you're a member. I''d say its worth it, and would join DCU again.
