Amex is a SP and you should request 3x current line... it will counter instantly.

walmart/GE cards are SP except a few like Carecredit... either online or call credit solutions if you want to ask for huge increase.

If you're going to make broad generalizations then assume hard though several in the OP are soft.

I prefer online. You should base your decision on your own preferences versus just polling people.

The button on Capital One's control panel is a soft pull. But since it's Capital One, there's no point in even using it...

Discover is also a soft pull, but they will ask you to run a hard pull if that fails.

Barclays is always a hard pull.

Chase? Gotta call in as far as I'm aware.

But in general, always assume HP.

Thank you everyone -

I guess I will tread lightly with people like barclays and chase

but I will go ahead and utilize the button on the account page for the likes of Amex & Walmart.

TO be honest Takeshi

my intentions were not to get a poll going - I just wanted to know where I can use the online button and where I should be calling

I see no reason for anyone that well manages their credit to ever have to incur a hard pull - as a result I tend to shy away from those
