topic Beware: LOFT online CLI turned HP in Credit Cards

Went to request a CLI online for my Commenity Bank Loft card, which has always been a soft pull. Fast Forward a two days: I get an credit monitoring email saying I have a new Inquiry listed on my CR and I go into temporary panic at a friends house because I know for the life of me I haven't applied for any credit lately (home shopping soon). Turns out that typical Loft SP was a HP... I'm extremely frustrated but just thought everyone with commenity cards should beware/be careful. The customer service rep was kind, but couldn't do anything. She gave me their address to issue a dispute, and I've been waiting on the phone with Experian for almost an hour now trying to get a person b/c for some reason it's not allowing me to dispute it online.

This was for Equifax, btw. Good luck to you.

You cannot go to the CRAs to have a HP deleted it is as already stated a legit fact, the only one who can delete it is the one who requested the report in this case Comenity, you can bleat, demand and do just about anything else you can think of and you will get nowhere with them. When asking for a CLI any creditor has a permissable purpose to access your credit file, the rule of thumb is expect a hard and be happy when its a soft.

Adding: This is why I dont fool around with luv buttons I get on the phone, get a UW and go for at least a 10K CLI, I am extremely happy when it is a SP.

This was for Equifax, btw. Good luck to you.

Several weeks back I helped a friend take off 1 HP and 4 SPs from his Equifax CR by disputing with Equifax. It was from a collection agency as a result of a fraudulent account. The dispute was placed over the phone with a live rep at Equifax.

It did take almost the full 30 days investigation before it came off.

So it is possible but I think CRAs are now expect the consumer to enforce their rights a little more fiercely than simply clicking the dispute button. Could be wrong but I think requests to remove incorrect data and disputes seem to receive favorable result if the consumer also is a subscriber to the CRAs credit monitorying services. In the case of Experiance they give greater priority to people that pay them $19.95 a month.
