I was in the "Steps" program too. Approved for $300 and paperwork stated that I could 'graduate' out of the 'Steps" if I used the card at least once and made payments on-time for the first 5 statements; and the maximum increase I would receive was another $200. Last week I was pleasantly surprised when I logged-on and saw a $2000 increase, bringing my CL to $2300. I had not yet fulfilled the 5 month requirement either.

As far as the QuickSilver: The online chat rep told me to wait at least 30 days to apply for it after the Platinum. I actually forgot to apply and applied 2 months later...was approved for $500. This is not a 'Steps' card so I assume I'll have to wait 6 months for a CLI.

Oh...by the way: I upgraded my former 'Steps' card to the QuickSilver; it's already earning cashback and a new, replacement card should be in the mail any day no; they even changed the picture on my accounts page!

I have come a LONG WAY in less than a year from reading everything I can on this forum....

Read everything you can; and most importantly, before you apply for a card, or email an EO or call for a recon, scower these boards to get tips on what to write/say or to see if your credit profile supports the credit you want to apply for.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

Good Luck.

I've read lots of posts on here regarding cap one/cli's

To those that get the increase, are your cards in the steps program/out of the steps program/not in the steps program

From what I understand, you will not get an increase before completing the steps program

Have you ever been given a bigger increase after contacting the EO, aside from the typical $500 to $750 and so forth?

And while I'm here if someone could PM me the instructions on contacting the EO via email/or do I just go straight to the FB page and message?

I currenty have the following cap one cards and when the time comes I want to ask for a higher increase than what they would normally give because I'm not going to be stuck with credit cards that have a $750 limit. Not that I want to go on a shopping spree, but I want it to have a higher limit for my credit score.

Cap one platinum: $1,000 (opened Nov 2013)

Cap one quicksilver: $500 (opened Nov 2013) by default (I was told by a chat rep that it was ok to apply for a second cap one card within 30 days of already applying for one and being approved, applied for the Quicksilver and got the 7-10 day notice so I called and the agent said it was not processes because I just applied for and received the cap one platinum that week. When I explained to him that the chat agent on their website gave me incorrect information, I was approved for the Quicksilver)

Cap one sony visa: $500 (one week old) was hoping for at least $1,000

My scores at the time of approval 612 Experian from the letter I received (they pulled all 3 bureaus though)

Thanks!

I have a Cap One credit steps card. My limit started at 500.00. The letter I received with my card stated that my limit would be upgraded to 750.00 upon successful completion of the program (three statements with all on time payments. Upon cut of the third statement, I received a notification from Cap One via email which stated that I had earned a 2000.00 CLI, bringing my CL to 2500.00. This is one of my highest CL. Needless to say I was pleasenty surprised.

@Supermama75, I am jealous! My letter re: the credit steps program said that a CLI would be possible after 6 statements.....which I thought was the "norm" for this program. Just completed 2 statement cycles so far....so still have some time to go. :-(
I do like this card for its simplicity (1.5% cb on everything), no FTF and essentially no waiting periods for statement credits. It's just been a hassle having to make so many payments per billing cycle just to be able to maximize the rewards and stay below the CL!
When did you open your account? Also, if you don't mind my asking, what was your credit profile like when you opened it? I can only hope that Cap1 could accelerate this program....a CLI sooner than later would definitely be nice....but from what I'm learning about Cap1, I probably shouldn't hold my breath, lol!
Congrats on your great CLI by the way! Yes, I can still be jealous and happy for you at the same time! ;-)

I applied for a Cash Rewards Card back in March of 2013. My initial CL was 1,000. After the 6th statement cut I got an auto CLI to 3000. My initial card paperwork said I was enrolled in the credit steps program but never specified the amount of a CLI I would receive.
