I've been on Disney and Carnival, and personally I feel no other cruise line compares compared to Disney. Certainly not as poppin' as Carnival (with like 10 bars/clubs and a casino on board), but the quality of service on Carnival was sub-par compared to Disney's!

The Disney card (no annual fee and annual fee) through Chase, though not in and of itself a "cruise" card, does count on the Disney cruiseline, not to mention all Disney locations (DisneyWorld, Disneyland, and their similar parks outside the States) as well as Disney stores. The points can be redeemed on cruises, or put towards the Disney timeshare (which my parents do have).

I checked out the Carnival one while on the ship about a week or two ago. Very meh, but if you plan on cruising them all the time, could be worthwhile. Sign up bonus was 5000 "fun-points". Honestly better off using another rewards card.

Most cruiseline cards are very bland compared to hotel/airline cards. But to each his own

Thanks daybreak, The carnival commercial the one were there is a water slide now that would be pretty cool, Basically our dreams is to go on a cruise trip to Hawaii this just for future reference. Since youve been on them aprrox. how much money did you use on a cruise line?

Currenly only 3 cruise lines go to Hawaii, Carnival, Holland America & Princess. Have you looked into cruises to Hawaii? Not the best use of time IMO, more than half the time is at sea, 15 day cruise, 5 days in Hawaii ....

Bears, please try and establish non AU relationships. I know its tough being young. With the credit crunch on individuals less than 21 years of age its gotten worse. With that being said, you are still better off planting your seeds on your own. There's no way you will get a cruise line cc on your own. And speaking from experience, you are better off being in a position where nobody but yourself can lead to default. Don't let others bring you down. Get a secured card and start your credit journey the way you should.

@HeilFico Ive finally managed to do a Joint as you can see on my siggy, Ive removed myself as an AU from all those cards. Ive also managed to get a CR and CS via EQ.com and not have to rely on Quizzle.com, And NO Im not planning in applying for any CCs right now Im growing my current card.

@sillykitty thats why Im asking which cruiseline offers the best when it comes to traveling, and either way its somehing I want to try if I dont like it well hey at least I tryed it right? But thanks I didnt know that currently only those 3 took you to Hawaii.

Yea. Cruises drive me crazy......For the same or little more amount of money, one can generally have a real trip instead, and the experience is a lot better.

I guess if you haven't tried it before, it's worth a try just for the experience, though I wouldn't really recommend it. There's just a lot of issues with cruise vacations, especially as of late. Hygiene is a big concern, and most cruises fall short on that aspect.

If you just want to experience it, maybe try a 3 day cruise vacation instead?

Cruises are good for sitting on your butt, but if you really want to get out and see certain destinations in-depth, crusing can be quite limiting in some ways.

If it's your first time cruising, I'm with enharu and would recommend something shorter (3-4 nights). If you opt for something longer and end up not liking it, your options are far and few inbetween once the ship has left port.

As always, define "best". You can't just assume it to be a universal matter. We can't tell you which cruise line (or any option on any topic) is best to you.

IMO none of them are but I'm not a cruise person.

I would think twice about a cruise from the mainland to Hawaii for many reasons.

Personally I felt claustrophobic in my small average room but was able to upgrade to a balcony room.

If first cruise Highly reccomend the upgrade.

In June taking family and my 6 year old Granddaughter I haven't seen in 4 years to Charleston to spend 5 days on Carnival cruise to Bahamas. Carnival is great for kids but as Adult It's not my favorite way to travel.

Reccomend as others have pointed out a shorter trip with more Port of calls.. Visions of kids getting Sea Sick....

Been on 2 Princess cruises - 7 day Carribean and 12 day Mediterannean. Princess was a nice cruise line - clean, decent food, great service etc. and enjoyed the experience.

However, I think it was due to the fact that both times, the ships were brand new, I was traveling with 2 small kids and a big group of extended family, and had a large balcony room. Sailing into Venice and the view from our balcony was quite spectacular. It also helped that there were at most only 2 days where you were at sea all day.

I would not recommend this cruise line for anyone between the ages of 10 and 50 though. It's very sedate in what type of things you can do if you're at sea all day.

If you want the cruise experience, I would recommend flying to Hawaii and from there, taking a cruise around the islands.

I think you are in So Cal like me. I've done maybe a half dozen cruises out of LA and while I had a TON of fun at the time on some of them (young, in college, big groups of friends, lots of drinking) I would resist going on another cruise. So just a random list of my dislikes....

Cabins are small, even some of the upgrades

Everything seems 'sticky' I always take the stairs, never the elevator and on both Princess and Carnival my hands were always sticking to the rails and in any of the night clubs or the main theater/stage my shoes always stuck to the floor

There wasn't that much to do on ship

Ports of Call were short

You hookup with one bad person and you're going to spend the rest of the cruise hiding and ducking them

Food was disappointing at best

There was really very little to do other than drink or gamble which was really super expensive. My first cruise in college (1996 Carnival) I paid $300 for the trip (there were 12 of us/group rate) and my bar tab at the end was $750 in 4 days

It's actually often cold, windy and overcast out at sea. I've spent many days completely covered up with towels or a robe poolside just to stay warm!

I felt like a trapped hostage at their mercy and why was I paying so much money to sit around drink and read

It was always a long wait getting off the ship at ports of call and then it's just all the touristy trap things when you get off, plus we only had a few hours before we had to be back or the ship would leave without us

Just this week I read of another cruise ship that had to cut it's trip off early due to Norovirus and even had a fatality (nasty vomitting and diarreah)

Those ships are massive multibillion dollar investments for the companies, they want to keep them sailing and making $$. I think sometimes they put off cleaning and maintenance just to keep it earning revenue

I have always felt like "Cattle" never like a guest

The good:

As ~~hostages~~ guests on this XX day tour you get a chance to meet, mingle and enjoy the company of complete strangers. You do meet nice people and make new friends much more than being at a resort on another type of vacation

If you are ok with only a day in various ports it's a very cost effective way to see several ports in a short time frame

I agree with an earlier poster, for Hawaii it might be a good way to see several islands on one trip but it's going to be a LONG LONG cruise from the Mainland. Flying to Honolulu and taking a local cruise might be better

I have heard (but not done it myself) that it's actually a great way to see Alaska (inner passage). That is one cruise I might consider

From Los Angeles I think most (if not all) 3-4 day cruises only go to Mexico or just out to open sea and back, at best you go to Catalina

For good family vacations I've become a fan of renting a condo. You can find VRBO (Vacation Rental by Owner) websites and check places out. With being in a condo you have much more space, you can cook your own meals and you can do whatever you want on your vacation days. You do have the expense of travel to the condo (airfare, car rental, taxi) and you are based out of one spot as opposed to waking up in a new city every day or every couple of days.

Sorry!!! I don't mean to be such a Debbie Downer on you and your family's dream of a great cruise... I do hope you guys can work out a great family vacation cruise or otherwise.

Took a 7 day cruise to Alaska on Norwegian and loved it. We did stay in The Haven which was more like a hotel than a cruise. Two rooms, private balcony, private floor and a buttler/concierge. One of the best trips I've taken though and well worth the extra bucks to be in The Haven! Barclays Arrival seems like a good card to rack points up on and redeem for a cruise. Good luck!
