AMEX Backdating

Hi all,

I tried looking up the answer to my questions...couldn't find a clear answer.

I am currently not an AMEX member.

1) If I was approved for an AMEX, and later became and AU on an old AMEX card, could I backdate my current, personal cards?

2) If I am and AU on an AMEX, then apply for an AMEX, will they backdate my card(s) to the date of the card that I am an AU of?

I believe that you can only backdate to your member date. You don't get to backdate to a membership date of an account you are an AU on.

I believe that you can only backdate to your member date. You don't get to backdate to a membership date of an account you are an AU on.

Right, Amex changed their policy quite a while ago regarding AU backdating due to abuse. They no longer backdate AUs to the primary member's MSD. Whenever an individual first gets an Amex card, either as a primary or as an AU, that is the MSD that is recorded and applies from then on.

So:

1) If you were approved for an AMEX and later became an AU on an old AMEX card you could only backdate your AU MSD to that of your initial, personal approval.

2) If you are an AU on an AMEX and then apply for an AMEX on your own, they will backdate your personal Amex card to whenever you first became an AU.

I believe AU backdating only applies to the time you became AU

My father in law has an amex with like 1980 member date on it

I would abuse that gold mine if they let me lol

Once you lock in your MSD (Member Since Date) the year of subsequent cc's will reflect your MSD. Additional cc's*, will reflect the month of THAT card and the year of your MSD.

If you are a primary cardholder, your CR's will be backdated as well. Amex recently changed their policy to exclude the CR backdating for ACMs - when you become a primary, your CR's would be backdated for YOUR new cc.

*personal cards - business cards it's a YMMV

Can someone help me understand the current Amex MSD data?

If I was primary on an old account, added an AU a few years later, and the cards have been closed for several years.

My AU just opened an account where they are primary.

I understand their new account should reflect the year they were added as an AU on my original card.

What will my report reflect if I am added to their account as an AU?

It's dicey if I'll be able to be added as an AU, so if I am likely to end up with just the current date I won't rock the boat.

But if it looks like I could get either of the earlier dates, then it's worth the risk.

If you're added as an ACM, the account will report as new.

That's what I understood if I were a new virgin cardholder and became an AU -- but that's the case even if I have set my own MSD with previous accounts? And if the new account backdated for the primary thst used to be the AU?

ACMs do not get the benefit if backdating on their CR's. Your MSD will not change only they way it reports on your CR's
