Ok, so I posted the other day about how I have been eyeballing the Arrival card even though I have not wanted to get involved with Barclay because of all the negative things I read here. I decided to go for it since the Arrival offer is so good right now. I got an instant "under review" message. I called the backdoor number and was told the app was declined. The rep said he could not overturn it and that my credit report looks great but I have opened too many accounts in the past two years. I have only opened 4 in the last 12 months and 1 of those is not even showing up yet. I have no negatives and my score is around 760 on all of my reports. They pulled TU. I didn't even argue with him or try to get him to overturn their decision. He told me to reapply in a few months and I should be ok. I know that y'all always say to recon and that Barclay is pretty good with that but I think I will just leave it alone. I don't want a 500.00 card. I probably sound like a credit snob but I feel I have come a long way and I don't want to settle for a card that I don't want or a limit that is too low. This post is not to blast Barclay and I'm not mad or anything about the denial, I just know alot of people are eyeing their cards and maybe this information will help someone else make a decision.

A lot of folks have great success with barclays but a lot of folks (including myself) do not. I think it really depends on the rep you get. Some want to approve you and work with you others come up with any reason just to deny you. I have had great experiences with chase and even Comenity! But barclays really does nit pick and you never know what mood there automated system or recon reps are in.😣

Barlcay is one of those odd birds that almost don't like the prime borrower with huge CL's... they seem a bit like Discover sometimes.

They want middle of the road credit but someone that focuses on mostly using Barclay and not caring about opening up cards with other banks.

But I agree with the other poster, some people have really great success with Barclay and others do not... My partner quickly saw his card get a HUGE CLD after opneing and after balances on other cards started reporting... I mean I get it in a way... but...

I opened up 21 new accounts in the last 9 months to a tune of 300k credit limit and Barclays still gave me a high limit CC. But my TU fico has been around 800 for the last 12 months so YMMV.

Logic doesn't always prevail in cc approvals ...Especially when you go through the recon route, because then decisions become subjective so one analyst may have no problem approving your recon based on too many Inqs but another would certainly not.

My aaoa is about 13 months. My oldest card is 18 months old. I have opened csp, boa travel and sw in the past 6 months. The sw card is not even showing up yet. I have a pif mortgage on my report but the rep said that didn't matter. He told me my payment history is perfect and my credit looks great. Just that I need to reapply in a few months. It's their loss I guess. I did open a bunch of cards 18 months ago because I went years paying everything in cash thinking it was the right thing to do. Then I realized I had hurt myself. After a year, I wanted travel cards and cards that benefit me point/cashback wise. So now I'm trying to switch gears and close some cards and open new ones so I'm not just using cards to keep them active. So there is a method to my madness but that csr wasn't hearing any of it....lol

Sorry for mistakes, on my cell.

Tada, and there is your answer. All your accounts are new new new new new. No established history.

Barclays is a more conservative lender. As others mentioned, they see more risk, business wise to giving someone a card who has high scores, no long term history, ton of new credit, versus someone who has a history that they can look at, be it good or bad. Because if someone has bad history, you can give them a rate and credit line tha works for everyone.

With someone with new history... well that is just like all those people who looked at the housing market only at the last 4 years and never thought house prices would ever go down. lol.
