the old Blue Cash card (Amex) still available

fyi to anyone interested...... If you go to the Amex's main website and then select "View all personal charge and credit cards" from the drop-down menu, the blue cash everyday should be the first card on the top. Then, click on "View Quick Info". This will reveal a link that reads: " Looking for an earlier version of the Blue Cash Card?"

Click the link and then you'll go directly to the page for the old Blue Cash card; the page is apparently still active and the card can still be applied for.

I have confirmed via chat and the 800 number (located on the old Blue Cash web page) that the card is still available . However, none of the reps seem to know for how long availability will go on. They can only confirm that it's for a limited time.

Anyways... just wanted to share... I know for some of us here that the $6500 yearly spend threshold is easy to meet and the unlimited 5%on gas,groceries,drugstores that you get after spending 6500 ...makes this card very lucrative

I just looked but don't see that link anywhere. But I just got the BCP card so I probably wouldn't qualify for it anyway.

EDIT: Looks like you need to be completely logged out in order for it to show up. I launched a Chrome Incognito browser session and found the link to the old blue:

Kind of wish I got that instead of the new BCP.

If it is available, my guess is you are able to product change to it if you like. I am the phone with them now to see if that is an option, I will report back shortly.

No! Not so much a calculation, more "If I buy 40 VR a month on this card, will Amex get annoyed in a way that Citi doesn't?" If MS is easy on this card, the initila say $97 loss (spending $6500 at 0.5% instead of 2%) is OK.

I think the only caveat I can find compared to the BCE/BCP cards is the APR is tiered at 17.24%, 20.24%, or 22.24% rather than 12.99% - 21.99%.

It would be a considerable bump up from my current 12.99% (in 0% promo for now), but I dont carry a balance anyway.

I just did some math, and it seems like the old Blue, for groceries, is only better than the new one if you spend more than $12,025/year ($231.25/week) on grocery purchases. Anything less than that, and the new Blue has a better cash back offer, even after taking the $79 annual fee into consideration. Obviously this doesn't take the gas/drugstore difference into consideration, which would be too hard to compute objective differences on.

Since we spend about $200/week on groceries, I think we will stick to the new BCP card. With that, we'd make about $329 on the new Blue vs $260 on the old.

Well, the big caveat is that first $6.500. Obviously depends on your spend and your existing cards, but that is the main drawback compared to the current cards. If all your spend is on a 1% card, then you lose only $32.50 on non-EDS, but the amount goes up if this is replacing 2 or 5% spending, and then you need to spend more post $6,500 to gain back the loss. And of course it is 1% less than BCP once it kicks in.

(And a lot of people were getting BCE rather than BCP because they "didn't spend enough" so that presumably applies here too)

Does your calculation assume that all the initial $6,500 is on groceries? This earns 1%, so $65, then the remaining 5,500 earns $275 for a total of $340 on this card

vs $360 on the new, not sure where your $329 comes from.

Yes, take sign on offer, but that's just for the first year, Plus you can spend $6,500 on other things, where the loss is much less.
