I applied for a chase freedom card and was wondering what it takes to get approved or what would be top reason for denial want to call recon fully informed

I was denied and got approved from doing a recon this year. I think what it takes is not much different from other cards: low utilization, didn't burn them in the past (although there are exceptions), not a whole lot of inquiries, honest answers to the questions they're going to ask you (about baddies/income, etc.). They also seem to verify your identity often so this may increase your wait time.

Last year, my husband tried to apply for a Chase Freedom card in our local bank. We've had an account with them for decades. They NEVER explained to him that he needed to have a FICO score when they denied him. All they stressed was that he needed two full years of excellent credit with "someone else."

Chase Freedom is my A card. I won't even app for it until my CR's are 100% clean. I just don't want to take any chances.

My reports have no negative info just a lot of inquiries and not much account history but good history for what is there

I agree with the other poster that you should have 2 years of history before applying. Plus, those inquiries should go before you apply.

They gave me one with 15 inquiries and less than 2 years history.

I was approved instantly online with one 1.8 year old baddie (a small medical collection that I'm disputing) showing and several recent inquiries, as well as four new accounts within the two months preceding the Chase app (Care Credit, Walmart, Amex, and Citi). According to the letter I received in the mail with my card, my EX Fico at the time was 710.

I would say nothing is for certain but obviously a good score 660 + is desirable.

But as we can see, even a recent baddie, short credit history, many inqs, many, many new accounts were all overlooked. In asking what it would take to get X,Y or Z card, I have stopped wondering since it depends on many factors including internal ones.

Example, I got a bigger CL on my Discover than many ficoers on here with 750+ EQ score and my EQ hasnt even broken the 700 mark. Not to say im not grateful but what made Discover give me a higher CL? my util on EQ is 3%; maybe? I have only 1 inq on EQ? I won't even try to understand.

I had also opened 7 new TL in the past 2 months when chase pulled my ex report for my approval.

citi forward opened in november

discover opened in october

fidelity amex opened in october

walmart opened in november

cap1 opened in october

jcp opened in november

freedom opened in december

all these accounts were reported on my ex report when chase pulled for my freedom in dec

Indeed, YMMV -- or anything can happen. At the same time, we should ask what is typical and if we can find a good situation that would give a reasonable certainty if one does not want to waste inq's. I like the 2 years of history and clean CR. Of course, if you don't care about inq's you can app every month until it works. (I think someone posted this plan with AmEx at some point) -- not my style, definitely.

I only had $300 Orchard card (for about a year) and a Walmart Discover card for $800 for 4 months and applied for the Chase Freedom AND my Amex last August at the same time and was approved for the Chase Freedom for $4500 and Amex for $10k.

I had no baddies (the last one had just dropped off days prior) at the time and my score jumped up over 100 points when that happened (to over 800).

I was approved instantly.

So, just saying YMMV since I didn't have a card for 2 years in good standing when I applied.

This is an old thread.

Minimum current (pretty certain) guidelines from 6/12 onward roughly: 1 year of revolving history, 640ish FICO - identical to the Discover IT which it directly competes against from a product perspective. Chase banking relationship can help anecdotally.

It is now Chase's entry level card from a product positioning perspective, used to be harder to obtain.

I got approved yesterday after the App had been pending review for 3 days. my transunion score was 690 at the beggining of this month according to discover, Quizzle had me at 707. I app'd for Paypal Xtras, Walmart, requested CLI With BOA before apping for the chase freedom. And after taking their time I was approved for 2k!

I got the typical wait till 30 days response when i applied and i figure it will be another rejection.... I have a 717 Fico Score Based off TU i believe which i got from my Discover card statement. I currently have 4 cards (1 is a store card) Discover it card: $1k limit ( May 2013), Amazon store card: 700 Limit ( August 2013) , American Express Blue cash everyday card: 1k Limit (November 2013) and my brand spanking new Amazon visa card: $500 limit (Feburary 2014 Today ). I also been Banking with chase for around 5-7 years now and i have no baddies and only recently started to carry a balance ( Christmas lol ) which will be around $450 on my Discover it card...

Not true. I've had friends with zero history get approved. I had less than a year of history and got approved. Rep was wrong
