It says "patent pending design." A patent can remain pending indefinitely, so that designation means nothing. If they want to patent the design of having steel mated to carbon fiber, that won't happen either, since you cannot patent an idea or design, only the expression of such. IMO, wouldn't the carbon fiber be better looking on the front of the card? Poor design as far as I'm concerned.

I thought that wasn't legal...your AF cannot be more than 25% of your CL. So the minimum CL should be $1,800.

The low limits incidents happened BEFORE card act. Now that card act is implemented, AF cannot exceed 25% of the credit limit.

The card has also been stainless steel / carbon fiber hybrid for a while now.

the funny thing about this is that i use a first premier invitation card to unstick frozen windows works wonder.....not sure i would ever pay 495$ for the same

I don't have my tape measure on me but at a glance a CC measures roughly 4 3/16 x 2 3/4 inches with a 1/4 radius in the corners.

I have a sheet of 16 gauge stainless (.06) at work and can cut as many as you want with the waterjet... then we paint 'em black (pun intended) and profit.

It's not, this card is a joke. You're paying $495 per year for an inferior rewards program, Lounge Club access, and a concierge. The AmEx Platinum and JPM Palladium cards are vastly superior.

It's been around for a lot longer than that, since 2008, I believe. Barclays just pushed to make it mainstream within the past few years. I had the card for a year. The benefits are garbage. My travel is primarily domestic, and the vast majority of lounges are located overseas. As a result, the lounge access was worthless to me. The concierge is also pretty weak.

A few positives (or at least not negatives). First, they'll waive the $495 fee if you threaten to cancel. In essence, that gave me a free trial period. Second, they double the value of your points if you book travel through their agency. That means 25k points (at 1 point per dollar spent) will buy you a $500 plane ticket. Third, and this is completely a personal thing, I actually found the new design to be pretty cool. It felt about as heavy as my Ritz Carlton card, and I sort of like the jet black look. I know, it's superficial, but I find it entertaining.

I cancelled the card before the second annual fee hit. I immediately added the Ritz Carlton card to my lineup. I find that card to be substantially more valuable than the Visa Black Card. The concierge has been stellar, and I can't tell you how nice it is to get Chase's executive office when I dial the customer care number on the card. No stinking IVR prompts to fight with, just straight to an agent, and a competent one at that. Even better, they'll help you with any of your Chase accounts, not just your Ritz account. The $395 annual fee is steep, but it's offset by a $200 airline credit. That makes it a $195 annual fee card in my book. And, again a personal preference, the card is all metal, super heavy, and pretty flashy. It's fun to see how people react to the look and feel of the card.

In summary, the Black Card feels and looks cool, but the benefits are garbage. I'd say go for the Ritz card if you want a premium card in the all metal category.

I have the visa black card from barclays and was able to get the $495.00 waived and also got the 25k points. with the $1000.00 spend within 3 months,Got the card back in oct of 2013.15K limit.also have the ritz card as well yes its a great card to have

Being that the first thing they mentioned in their advertisement is that the card is stainless steel its pretty clear its a ripoff card imo. I see no reason to get this card other than its made of stainless steel or whatever else is in there. In my mind its extremely lame ( I had much stronger language before but then toned it down some) of a person to pay all that money for the right to carry a sub par card in their wallet or purse if they do so just because its stainless steel. The amex platnium still has better earning potential.
