Citi american executive card

So I am considering getting the citi american executive card. I don't really want to leave the garden at the moment, but the bonus offer would be very useful to me. I had intended to wait until July before next app cycle. At the start of Jan I was declined for chase ink and picked up a CSP and Amex BCP/PRG (one pull for these two- so 3 HPs in Jan maybe 6 to 7 HPs total since May 2013 although i don't think they all show on the same reports). I have a Cap 1 Venture and Chase Freedom card from June 2013. Checked the prequal site for citi and was prequaled for a couple of cards one of which is the platinum select american aadvantage card, although the executive card does not pop up. Does anyone know if this card would show up on the prequal website? Would picking up another card at this point worry my other lenders? Chances of approval with citi? Any ideas on how long the citi offer will be around? I would like to wait as long as possible on this.

Executive AAdvantage seems to have a high approval rate from the info I've been following. Citi prequal is usually a good indicator if they will in fact approve a card for you. I think one thing you may risk is Amex 3x CLI, but i dont think Chase or Cap1 will AA over 1 more account. For that 100k Citi offer I think it's a good risk to take.

I have not heard of this card showing up in the online prequal. Citi typically looks for less than 6 HP in the prior 6 months. I think you have a very good chance of approval.

ETA: I believe this offer will be around through March 2014 but with Citi anything is possible including extending it or shutting it down altogether.

I think it is worth it. I had plans to apply for a citi card but couldnt resist the offer. 110k miles for 10k spend plus 200 statment credit which makes the annual fee 250. From what I have seen, the card is not hard to get. No idea how long the offer will be around for though. I know people on FT have gotten two of the same card and got 200k miles. Tempted to apply a second time lol

That's not so bad and it's been a good amount of time. Plus you have preapprovals on their Web page (something I've never had and still have 5 Citi cards). I would go for it but I'm a milesaddict and think the deal outweighs the risk.

I say go for it.

The offer probably will still be around for 2-3 more weeks at least, I think.

the $200 statement credit seems to apply to everything, not just AA expenses. $250 fee for 100k miles is an extremely good deal.

@darkfrosty wrote:

I think it is worth it. So for those people, it's essentially free $200 + 100k miles. Their internal score probably took a big hit out of that and they might even be blacklisted if they try to pull this off again, but if you don't really care about your banking relationship with Citi, then you might as well do it.

At the moment my bcp has not yet reported and I am hoping it stays that way, although my amex prg which I obtained on the same day as the bcp did pop up this week on my credit report.

you mean you are just going to spend on the citi exec cut from next month onwards, while you pay off the other cards, right?

Your BCP should report any moment now, I think. I applied for my SPG and was approved on 9th Jan. The card showed up on my EX early last week and its now reporting on all 3 bureaus now

I am planning to apply for this card as well next week once I am done with my Palladium app. Hopefully the offer will last until then.

This way I can meet the initial spend requirement and get another 30 days to pay off all the credit card debt as I don't want to carry balances on any of my cards.

Becareful with using VR / BB with a brand new Citi card. Generally it's fine, especially if you already have Citi accounts, but there are people who run into issues for that. I think you can just put regular spend on it for the first couple weeks or month, and then use VR / BB to make up for what you are still lacking.

Lets hope the offer will still be around next week! I'm planning to app for another Citi card too, so that will have to wait till mid march as well.

Sadly I don't have any other citi accounts, but I will have some regular spend that will need to go on right away as well. Unfortunatly, because VRs are soo hard to obtain where I live I am forced to buy in bulk when I see them. I bought 2k worth recently with my csp and I called in to let them know of the large purchase to avoid the fraud alert. Maybe I will do 2k the first month then 3k during the second and third months, assuming I can find enough cards to buy. I actually like a 1200 purchase coming up that I will get reimbursed on, so that will be a good start as well.

where do you reside?

There's a lot of VRs in Socal, but most of them require cash / debit.

I could buy prepaid MC / Visa instead, but the notion of having to walk into a Walmart is just too much...........

VR- Vanilla Reloads? Hmmm i'm in Orange County and haven't had any troubles yet purchasing the VRs w/ my cards.
