topic Be cautious of AMEX and Amazon Prime offer in Credit Cards

So as I am about to reach my 1k signup bonus threshold today on my BCE I realized today would also be a good day to finally sign up for Prime as to not lose out my free 2 day shipping. I have read conflicting reports about how Prime has to credit to your account before u reach 1k and vice versa so I decided to call AMEX to find out.

In speaking with the rep she stated that I have no such offer on my BCE. I was approved for this account on 1/22/14. I stated to her that I recall this being offered at the time of signup. She said my signup bonus offer only shows $100 cash back after 1k. She offered to escalate this but couldn't give me any indication as to why I wasn't eligible and slightly insinuated that I may be mistaken.

In looking over the AMEX site I found an FAQ regarding Prime specifically. It states:

"The American Express Amazon Prime offer is a welcome bonus offer available to new Card Members on select American Express® Cards who apply online using specific application sites."

I clicked to view the BCE as if I were applying for a new card and saw that it was showing the Prime offer meaning the AMEX site is an eligilbe website. Since I originally applied thru AMEX's site I should be eligilbe.

I called back and spoke to another rep. My first question to her was how long has the Amazon promo been running. She stated 12/10/13 as the start date of the promo and that is has been running everyday since. I made her aware of my situation. She saw the notes from the previous call and went to speak to a supervisor. According to her the response from the supervisor was that "some card members receive the offer and some don't." She immediatly stated to me that I should be eligible and filed a formal complaint on my behalf. While I have to wait 10-14 days for a response she says there is no reason I should not be eligible for the Prime offer.

Just be aware before u let that 30 day Prime trial expire expecting to receive your statement credit.

Interesting you had this issue. I got my approved BCP account on 1/26/14 and signed up that day for Amazon Prime. After the one month free Amazon Prime expired it hit my card for the annual fee at 2/25. I got my statement credit on 2/28. I blew way past the 1k spending for the 100 credit in early February.
