Questions About Moving to Another State

Hey everyone, I have an upcoming issue that has been weighing heavily on my mind.

In mid April I will be moving from Texas to Missouri. Currently I do not have a job lined up, but plan to get one as quickly as possible. For those of you with experience on the subject. How will my creditors react.

I will need to put my change of address into my accounts ASAP, will they expect updated employment information instantly, or will I have time to find a job before they get spooked and start asking questions?

I've been working very hard to build up my credit over the past 2 years and would be crushed if everything fell apart because of this move. I don't expect to be without work for more than a month, just thinking logically. As it will take me a little time to get settled and begin the looking process. I've zeroed out all my cards balances except for one, the Discover It card. I plan on keeping them at zero until I will be certain I can make regular payments like I always do.

Any thoughts or suggestions on how to approach this? Or will my creditors not even be worried about this as long as I'm still making my monthly payments on any balances I may have?

I'm planning a move soon, and I asked my creditors this, and they said to update the address immediately and the employment information as quickly as I could. While they won't require documentation, they will want updated information eventually.

Most of my cards have been with me through 2-3 moves and I've never updated my employment info. Never had a problem.

I probably wouldn't worry either, but if you are, change the address with the credit card companies only once you have a new job. As soon as you know the new address, you can file a change of address with the USPS and whatever mail (which should just be replacement cards if you are using the web) will be forwarded. Then, once you are employed, change the address with the credit card companies.

I've moved something like 9 times in the past 7 year including cross states and I just update my address everytime, never been asked about employment details.

This sounds about right. A lot of transactions will require zip code authentication, so I suppose I could notify them that I'm going there for vacation so they will expect transactions within that zip code. That would at least give me a week or two before I would have to update anything. Then update my address and employment info as soon as I can after that.

We all work so hard to build our credit and keep our creditors happy so I know everyone can understand my concerns with this. Maybe I'm worrying about nothing.

I have only updated my employment info with PNC, and that was because I happened to be there about my checking account and the banker said "well, while we are doing this, let's update blahblahblah..." Typically I do not worry about updating employment with my creditors, but I do update my address ASAP.

Do credit card companies get notified of forwarding mail with USPS? I recently just applied for a few cards, but am moving very soon. I was going to give it six months or so and update the info online. I just don't want to cause the creditors to freak out.

In well over 30 years of credit history, I have never ever notified a credit card company of a change in employment. I've changed addresses a few times and notified, but not always; as long as the money continues to come in for payments due, I don't think they care.

Thanks for clearing my mind on this everyone. I've moved within the same town a few times, but never out of state, so I wasn't sure how that should be handled. Thanks a bunch for the help!
