Credit Card weights

Just for the fun of it I weighed my cards.

The two obvious winners are CSP and Chase Marriott both at 12 grams individually. Together, they come in at 25 grams so each are something over 12 grams.

Discover, Amex, Freedom, and right down the line, 5 grams and the lightest...the clear Amex BCP at 4 grams.

I'm not surprised with the Marriott card as I have had a couple of retailers mention that it is the heaviest card they have ever held.

I get the same comments with my Chase United MP Club card. I've actually held a Palladium card and it's even heavier.

The Barclay "Black Card" (Carbon Fiber) version weighs in a 4.68 grams.

The AmEx "Centurion" (Titanium) wieghs exactly 14.00 grams.

I have heard that the Ritz-Carlton card is very heavy, but I don't have one of those - I look forward to hearing from someone who does.

I have both Ritz and Palladium as well as CSP and Marriott. Ritz and Palladium are equally heavy. I believe they are both 27 grams in weight. They are too heavy in IMO and doesn't fit well in wallet slots.

Did you actually weigh the cards, or are you just saying that you believe they are both 27 grams in weight?

I read it online. Someone had measured the weight of both cards. Another person even did a chemical analysis of the Pallasium. Anyhow, when you hold those cards, you can tell they are substantially heavier than CSP.

Ritz card is very heavy...feels like CSP & Marriott put together. I get mucho compliments everywhere....love it!

Geez!! I just tried to swipe my CSP and Marriott card together through the card reader at my office......at 25 grams combined they are too thick to run through the reader. Don't show up at my office with a Ritz or Palladium....I get charged more if I have to manually input the data rather that swipe 27 grams, that's a hunk of metal!!

I know I've got several comments about the black Marriott card, we'll see with the CSP but I'm thinking it's because the Marriott is black/metal.

The Ritz card really isn't materially thicker than other cards. I've never had an issue sliding it through a card reader. The material is just inordinately heavier. It's a super cool card. I don't use it a ton since my other cards provide better rewards (at least for my lifestyle), but I always carry it in my wallet and when I do use it, it usually garners a pretty fun reaction from others. 8-)

I've had the Marriott card for almost a week now...I've used it at several places so far, but only one person has mentioned how heavy it was. She asked me what type of card it was and I replied "uh...it's a Marriott Visa...I think it's made out of metal"...I def need to come up with a better response for cool points lol

My card reader at the office has a thinner swipe slot than retail operations, my Marriott and CSP jpretty much fills the gap!!

I'm sure it does get a reaction, my "lightweight" Marriott garners enough reaction

How does the marriott card feel compared to the CSP? Is it the same material just different color or are the cards totally different?

The only comment I have gotten so far is about my CSP and it wasn't the weight it was the fact that the numbers were on the back and not the front .

I usually go with something cheesy like I got tired of plastic, so told them to send me a metal card. It doesn't really matter what I say about the Ritz card, though. People are generally only paying attention to the weight and feel of the card.

I'm fairly certain they are made out of the same material and feel the same. I have the Marriot reward card and the United Miliage Club card through Chase and they are identical as far as feel and weight (I think the CSP is the same). The only cards, that I know of, that are heavier are the JP Palladium and the Ritz Carlton...Although, the Visa Black through Barclays may be heavier than the Marriot/United/CSP--the Black just isn't worth IMO.

+1. I've weighed it as well, and 27 grams is correct.

Sometimes I find it to be too heavy. The most commonly used cards are in vertical slots in my wallet. Its fallen out several times before when I was paying at the till, and it hit the ground with a loud clang. A few times the person behind me even picked it up, and then started commenting about it which was awkward to say the least.

I've never had that problem with the CSP or UA Club cards since they're significantly lighter.

Sounds like your lucky it didn't fall on your foot and break your toe!
