Closing AMEX Platimum Question

If I close this account do you think it may affect my other lines with Amex?

I have a couple of revolvers and the unicorn that I dont want to give up since it is cheap to keep.

Does Amex look at a total relationship when giving out CL? I can't afford to lose my current credit lines with them and the Platimum card is their flagship card.

What do you think?

You'll be fine. If they in fact affect your other lines then that's due to other bad things on your CRs. Closing your Platinum should have no effect with your relationship with Amex.

I thought about this too when I closed my PRG last night.

How does it look with my relationship with Amex, closing a card with them? (I have a Blue Cash left with a 3x CLI coming up soon too..)

How does it look in the eyes or other creditors, with a closed card on my report, opened not even a year?

But at the same time, I figure they would rather have people be responsible with their credit, open and keep what you need, and if there's an AF (a huge AF in your example), and if it's not adding value, the right thing to do would be to close it.

I look forward to other's responses that are more familiar with this matter.

Piggybacking off this inquiry, would closing my only credit with Amex (a PRG) negatively affect future applications with them? I should have at least one other line with them (such as the Everyday) at time of closing right?

Why do people on this board think that closing an account is such a bad thing? I have closed multiple accounts with AMEX, I never had any issue with them whatsover. As long as you're in good standing, I don't see why that would bother them.

+1. They are a company, not a person (regardless of what the Supreme Court ruled)

They are not going to take it personally that you closed one of THEIR accounts. As a company, they understand that circumstances change, situations change, and the need for a specific card change. As long as it's in good standing, you'll be good to go with another AMEX card at whatever point in the future you want to pursue that.

Side question - what's your plan for your MR points upon closing your Platinum? I would worry more about my points than what Amex thinks.

Open up the new Everyday card and keep your MR points fully active!
