Unfortunately, I did give my SSN. I guess that is the magic number for them being able to open a credit account in my name...

I recently purchased a couple of shirts at American Eagle, and I was told I could save 15% by signing up for the "All Access Pass". I was under the impression that this would just be an easy way of getting a discount on my purchase. The store clerk never told me I was applying for a credit account. Now I'm stuck with a hard pull on my credit report for an AE Credit Card with a $600 dollar limit. Should I dispute the opening of the account with American Eagle, pay it off and leave the account open, or close the account immediately?

Didn't you give your SS#? If you did, I would say definitely no luck. If you didn't, my guess is still no luck but you may have an argument.

Leave it alone and let the account age. It is too late to do any thing about it. At least you got the card with the hard inq. After 6 months the effect of new account and hard inq will be lessen.

Just pay it and leave it alone. Chances are they will close it for you after a year of inactivity anyways.

I signed up for the AE all access pass a year or so ago, I didn't give nor was I asked for my SSN so I never got a cc from them but got my all access pass in the mail a few weeks later. I would keep the cl even if you don't use it.

I agree - keep it. A $600 CL from them is high, from what I've seen on these boards. I just applied last week and got a measly $250. They're not big on giving decent CLs. Use it, PIF and let it age...
