Is it hard to get a Chase saphire??

what are the requirements?

is there a card i should apply for first then apply 6 months later for the saphire?

As always, depends on one's credit. I had no problems getting one but that means nothing with regard to how it will be for you.

Impossible to say. You haven't provided any information regarding your credit and situation. Approvals are generally easier for products such as the Slate or Freedom. It's generally stated that they want to see an existing $5K+ limit on another card but that seems to be one of those broad generalization that doesn't apply in all cases.

Make sure it suits you. Don't just apply for cards based on how they look.

Okay well

I am a student

i am 18

unemployed

I have no credit and just got my first card in the mail yesterday!

it has a 2k limit

and its sooo pretty i dont care about the rewards lol

Well, in that case your chances are pretty slim if you are unemployed and have no credit history as most of the prime lenders such as Chase would like to see solid history and good income.

Wait a year and treat the card that have very well.

How did you get a card without an income? Are you an AU on someone else's account?

i fly alot like 10-15 times a year and they sent me an email so i applied and got itttt

yay delta

maybe its my high status for them??

idk but i am not a AU

and i guess my parents give me like 5k a month if that countss lol

Congrats on your AMEX Delta! make sure you do a CLI after 61 days. If you treat your card well it might bump up to 6k. Sometimes a requirement for CSP is you have a revolving card with 5k or more. But everyone's right income could be an issue but I'm sure you can report the income your parents give you. I'd give it a shot in 6 months. Just make sure your Utl is low when applying for the card.

Not trying to lecture, but...

You really don't need to be in a rush to obtain lots of cards. Building credit when you first start takes time. If it was me, I'd use your current card and build a relationship with Amex as well as your credit score. Work on obtaining CLIs with the current card. Once you have shown you can handle the credit and the larger lines, then start to go for more cards. As you've been told before, this is not a race. And if it was a race, it certainly wouldn't be a sprint.

FWIW, I opened my first card freshman year of college when I didn't really have a steady income. It wasn't until I graduated and had a full-time job that I took on more. Nearly ten years after graduating I'm still working on building. There are more cards I want, but they will be waiting for a while until I build my credit further. I've seen way too many people try to jump into the deep end and burn themselves. I would hate to see that happen to you.

It's true though. That's what makes it so important. Your life is impacted by your credit in more ways than I think it should be, so it should be something that should be respected. Some people fear it and some people don't fear it enough. Credit can be your best friend if treated the right way. However, it can be your worst enemy at the drop of a hat if not handled properly. It's an addicting game, just don't let it suck you in.

Congrats on the Amex! Treat them well and they will be good to you! It took me about 18 months to finally get the CSP. I got my foot in the door with the Chase Freedom card and them paid it perfectly for over a year before apping for the CSP. I was denied the first time for the CSP and one of the reasons was because of needing another card with a 5k limit. I had a few at the time but they had not been opened long enough. I love Chase but you really have to earn your place with them IMHO.

This. The theory behind building good credit isn't terribly complicated. It is, however, much harder in practice. Good credit can save you tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars through your life. That kind of coin is far too much to take for granted.

It is much easier to take your time and do it right from the beginning than to have to dig yourself out of a hole. My goal is not to scare you, but rather to get you to think about the risk/reward when it comes to opening many new cards. Just don't forget your longterm goals such as how you want your credit to look when you're 30, 40, 50.
