You could always change to the Amex "Senior Green" version with a $35.00 AF (no Membership Reward points), or $75.00 AF, with MR points.

This card was a fairly recent topic of Forum conversation, if you care to search for more information.

A word to the wise, I would get a revolver before you close the charge card just in case you aren't approved then it's just a SP.

I still don't understand why one would keep this card even with only a 35 annual fee.

What is the value in this card to you, Transmorgifying_Bee? Just very curious to see the value in it. -- As I'm thinking about closing mine, as well.

@ KennyS2006 - - - I agree with your assessment of the Amex Green card. I renewed (@$35.00) for the year, but almost NEVER use this card anymore. I obtained the Amex BCE card last year and now have $24L CL on that card alone, and can probably get a CLI if I need it, which I don't for the foreseeable future! Hence, I will probably NOT renew my Green card next year. Hate to say goodbye to a card I've had for many years, but I am essentially wasting $35.00/year for basically sentiment's sake! My Amex BCE keeps me in their "family," and I can always reapply again in the future for a Green or maybe Platinum card (travel?) IF there's some benefit for me to have a NPSL card. With my decent CL on my Amex BCE card and some degree of NPSL latitude with my Chase Sapphire Visa Signature card, I should be well covered for any anticipated personal spending for the time being.

And as to having too many accounts, I have the same problem. Even though I have only 9 CC's, I plan on eliminating at least 2 or 3 cards. Definitely the Chase Amazon card (transfer my measly $1K CL to my Chase Sapphire card), and maybe closing one or both of my Capital One cards? Gotta think that through a bit more . . . !
