Hello everyone,

I am new to this group and have been doing a lot of research and it always leads me back to this. i have not pulled all three of my FICO scores because to be honest I dont want to pay all that money LOL. I am 25 yrs old and trying to build/rebuild a strong credit. We want to buy a house hopefully in about 1.5-2 years. I defaulted in my student loans about 5 years ago when I had a situation and had to withdraw from college and that is affecting my credit. For about 2 years now I am back at it and with a perfect payment history. I have a car loan with LGCU for $22,000 and 3 credit cards (all mastercards) with a $800, $1000, and $500 CL, and a small loan of $2,300 that will be getting paid off in the next 2 weeks. They are all fairly new with the oldest being only about 1yr and 3 mos old. My schools loans are now deferred because I am back in school and now close to graduation. My utilization is only about 17% at the moment and I do not plan on charging any more. I would like to have a card with a higher CL but I do not even know if I qualify for any or what does would be. I also want to have something that is not just mastercard but im afraid to apply anywhere bc I do not want to get a denial, also a store card so I can have different type of credit. Any recommendations? I see a lot about discover and Chase but I dont think I qualify for any of those .

I would check pre-qual links at each bank and see if you get any offers there:

citicards.com

discovercard.com

where are your 3 credit cards from?

what stores do you shop at or would you shop at?

Macy's, Walmart, TjMaxx, 76 Gas?

My credoit cards are 2 cap1 platinum and quicksilver, and one bank of america. The only place i shop a lot is walmart bc of groceries. I used to have their card but it closed in default like 4 yrs ago

LOL tried the pre approvals but they all say "we couldn't match your records to a Pre-Qualified credit card offer but we think you'll like this card"...Should I go ahead an apply for one or no?

and if walmart closed in default... did you pay it?

yeah it was paid in full. I have no pending balances on my credit. and thank you much for your advise. btw i couldnt resist and paid for all 3 scores and EX is 669 and TU 617. I have some disputing in process for wrong info on my credit so hopefully that will help

617 is borderline for Walmart approval.
The 667 ex is pretty good though depending what baddies are showing and how old you might be able to recon something like chase freedom.

I see. my EX only shows the bads from 4-5 yrs ago when I was in funk and all of my accounts defaulted mostly school loans and walmart card. I guess I will wait until I pay off the small loan in a couple weeks and the disputed collections come of Thanks again! cant wait to get a card with a higher CL

If one or both of your CapOne cards are over 6mos old & you have not received a CLI. Try requesting it. You may only receive $500 per card, but it's something & worth a shot while you wait to app for your new card.
