Barclaycard to Become AAdvantage MasterCard®

So...there's going to be two cards w/ AAdvantage program until 2015 when Citi takes over completely.

"There had been some speculation in the past as to what would happen with the relationship between US Airways and Barclaycard since the card of choice for American Airlines has typically been the Citi AAdvantage Card. We learned back in January that Barclaycard’s contract with US Airways had been negotiated through 2017 but a date for the branding change had not been set. With the new contracts, Citi remains the combined airline’s exclusive issuer of loyalty cards, and Barclaycard has been allowed to maintain its existing accounts using American’s AAdvantage program branding (more information can be found at Payment Source). However, it will not be until after the full integration of the Frequent Flyer programs at some point in 2015 that Citi will become the sole issuer."

I can't wait for my partners Business USAir Card to go Citi!!

Barclay CLD shortly after he got it and im done talking to them.

Well, here's the question- if you get the USAir Premier card w/ its current signup bonus- which is 40k miles after first puchase which sounds darn good, will the miles automatically convert to AA miles? If so, then it's waaay better than the current Citi AA signup bonus which is 30k miles after $1k spend on the Platinum.

Thoughts?

You can already redeem US miles on AA metal and AA miles on US. Barclays never would give me that US Air card....maybe when my Arrival hits 6 months?

This would be nice to take advantage of now! I can't seem to get in the door with a Citi card except the Home Depot card, so I could sneak in this way. That would be so awesome and then I could have a much better chance at the Dividend card that I want. I tried last year for a Citi card, but they wanted me to verify income and I have no patience to do such a thing, it just seems too much work to get the little rewards I want from the three months I would get the category I want....

It would also be nice to get those FF miles now....

Thanks for the link, but this is the Citi link? 50k miles signup bonus is nice, but $3k spend vs 40k miles signup bonus after first puchase on Barclays is much better.

The title and content of this article is slightly misleading. Yes, there will be two AA branded cards, one issued by Barclays and the other by Citi. However, the Barclays AA will not be converted on April 30, 2014. That will happen once the two FF programs officially merge, which won't happen until 2015. Until then, Barclays will continue to issue the US Airways branded card. Once it changes over to the AA brand, Barclays will no longer issue new accounts. Only those who have the US branded card will be eligible for the AA branded card.
