Amex another HP?

I received my Amex Costco card. I was thinking about the everyday card. I received a something from amex about this card and asked me to apply for it. I was wondering if I did, would it be another hp since it has only been 8 days from the last one. I was thinking about applying for it, in case I stop my Costco membership in the future.

Yup I believe would be a HP if approved and a SP if declined since you are already a member.

Even though it has only been 8 days, it should still be a SP if denied, HP if approved.

I say take the SP and HP theory with a fine grain comb because i did the same and it resulted in 3 separate hard pulls...

Hey shaun2009!

Just curious, did you get 3 HPs because of 3 separate apps and denied or 3 HPs for 1 app and they pulled 3 reports? Did all the denials happen as a card member or apping for membership? It's not typical at all to get a HP for a denial with Amex if you are already a member. Thanks for your response.

Yes i was approved for my TE then i apped for Green and BCP , denied both but resulted in hard pulls .... except it was a few days apart for the Approval too so i know it had to been in the system that i was a new member... I originally did them all the same day but the other apps just didnt go through just stayed pending i called they told me its because the system saw duplicate apps on teh same day so rep advised me to wait 3 days waited 3 days did Green one day and BCP next day ... each being a HP... I was so enraged....

It's a myth. Every single time I've been rejected, it's resulted in a HP, even though I was logged into my account when I apped.

I can assure you it is no myth. There are just too many data points that suggest otherwise. But I wonder what was different about your apps vs the others with SPs. It's obvious that it's not a 100% thing. I wonder why yours were HPd for denial and so many others aren't. I appreciate you guys letting everyone know. If you think of anything that might have caused the HP, please let us know.

Well the thing is that I wondering if it was a HP or not. Today I received a Pre-Selected letter for the Everyday Card. I was just thinking about it in case I ever decided to not renew my Costco Membership, and since if you don't renew your membership your Amex Costco gets canceled. If its going to be a HP, then nevermind. I just don't see me not renewing my membership anyways. I shop there at least once a week and that's the whole reason on getting a Amex Costco and they gave me a 6K starting limit as well.

How many of those who claim they didn't get a HP checked their Experian **cough** right after apping?

I apped for a PRG last night, checked Experian right away--no hard pull. Then I checked the Amex app status page and got the "Check back in 24 hours". I called the 800 number on the page and, after confirming my address, the CSR processed my app and told me I was approved. Right away I checked Experian again and saw the brand new HP.

I wonder if many of those SP denials were actually false negatives.

Honestly to app or not is something you have to decide as you see answers vary so could be a HP or could NOT be ... No one really knows what or what not causes it to be a HP if denied...

I cant i have every GE card i'm ever gonna need already only one itching me is Ebates but i've been holding out on it for months i wont add any more TLs only thing i have been getting HPs from is to get US Bank to increase my limit which i have finally gotten my platinum to $5K hopefullly soon an offer will come up for the Cash+
