I already knew the outcome as they had already updated my accounts online. Two of the three cards in question were given no CLI and the third went from $750 to $1000.

1. $750 Limit - $39 AF - $250 CLI to $1000

2. $750 Limit - $19 AF - No CLI

3. $300 Limit - $60 AF - No CLI

He calls me, apologizes for two of them not being "eligible" for CLIs and congratulating me (boy was he excited for me!) on the $250 CLI on the one card. I thanked him for his efforts (blah, blah) and told him I wanted to close them all. He was caught off guard but walked me through the process and they were all closed. I got his name, requested written confirmation of the closures and confirmed they would show report as being closed at my request.

So no more babysitting $5 and $8 monthly fees for insulting limits. I still have my Venture card (5K) and a handful of other quality cards totaling about 45K in limits so I'm good.

Onward and upward.

Bwah, ha, ha, bwah, ha, ha, don't worry I am not laughing at you, I am laughing at Capone. It seems like all the changes they have made in the last year have worn off. You would have thought they would have at least waived the AF's so that you wouldn't have closed the cards. Even people in the credit steps program have gotten higher increases than this! You should go post on their Facebook Page about this. While it probably won't help anything, it might mean others might become aware of it. I must admit, for myself, that at this point if I had an AF card with them and they refused to waive it at least, then I would close it. I did that once at the 2 year mark with one of their cards. The CSR's refused to budge on the card fee, so I said close the card, I wasn't going to play their silly games. I replaced it a year or so later with a Signature card. I got a $100 reward for using the card and have yet to pay any interest on the card. Oh such a wise way of doing business Capone! Don't simply waive the AF, instead make me get a $100 reward! The second card I had with them a few months later came due with an AF. I asked for them to remove the AF, they said no, but they said they could waive it for the year. I said I wanted it removed, they waived it. I called back a few days later and clearly said that I wanted it removed not waived, so they waived it. I called back once again and asked that it be removed, not waived, and they waived it again. I never asked them to waive it, I never asked them to waive it 3 times, I was very clear in my conversation with them. I asked for it to be removed! I also never told them it had been waived already and I also never told them not to. Boy did I choose my words carefully! And boy did I laugh about it for a while. I later got the AF removed on the second card from the EO. Two years ago it seems like it was a bit easier to get that done!

Hello. I have 4 Cap One cards. I recently made a very large leap from building cards to premium cards. I have a new Venture card with a 5K limit and 3 CapOne cards from my early days. Their annual fees are not really in line with their credit limits for me anymore. They are:

1. $750 Limit - $39 AF

2. $750 Limit - $19 AF

3. $300 Limit - $60 AF (!!!)

Concerning that last one, I just chatted with a CapOne rep who said they could not waive the annual fee. I asked about a soft pull increase request. He directed me to their website and assured me their increases are not hard pulls. So I did that to see if I could get an increase that made the AF make more sense for me. They offered a whopping $500 increase. So the line would be $800 with the $60 annual fee. Still really awful so I decline the increase with the intention of probably closing that account.

My recent cards are Citi AAdvantage, AMEX Blue, Discover, CSP, Barcaly's Arrival, Venture, DCU & Wells Fargo. Total new credit lines = $45,000K.

I'm assuming it makes sense to cacnel this stupid $300 CapOne and perhaps the others?

(BTW - also definitely going away is my Credit One with it's $96 AF on a $1200 line). Tired of paying and babysittiing piddling $5 and $8 a month fees.)

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well considering your other cards are quite better than your current Cap1 cards i would suggest closing those ones(The AF Cap1 Cards) . Your AAOA would take a hit depending on how old your other cards are compared to the ones your thinking about closing.

Are any of the three Cap1 cards Quicksilver cards? I would think the card with the $39 AF is the QuicksilverOne because the AF amount is the same?

If not, perhaps you can attempt to PC one of those Cap1 cards to a Quicksilver and see if you can move the balances (or the majority of each) from the other two cards and then close them?

At least the QS card will get you 1.5% back on all spend. They do have two variants: QuicksilverOne, which is likely a MasterCard and comes with a $39 AF (for average credit) and the Quicksilver, which is likely a Visa and has no AF (for excellent credit).

I don't have near the nice cards that you have and I am going to cancel my secured Cap 1. I have done the same thing, contacted EO and they didn't want to waive the AF, raise the limit or anything. They did offer to add the perks of rewards, like on the Quicksilver cards to the card, but it would still be secured and such. I respectfully declined, and just got the balance to 0. I have a NFCU goRewards with 4k and my DH has a cashRewards he just got approved for for $3000 (i'm AU).

SO I think it's time to close this out even though it is my oldest. Just no use for it. I'd say go for it, close it out.

The $39 AF card is a QS1. I know it has the 1.5% back but right now I'm really churning my new prime cards for their miles and travel reward which is going really well. I don't actually forsee using the Cap1 cards (except my new Venture card) much at all. So I'm weighing their small credit lines vs. their fees and no seeing much benefit considering my new 45K in much better cards is plenty for my utilization to be very low and for me spending needs.

So regarding AAoA. If I cancel card(s) does it not affect the AAoA As its till reports as a good trade line despite being closed? Because they're my oldest cards.

All of them, btw, have zero balances.

Those fees are crazy for such low limits! You should try again with another csr.. some are more lenient than others. Its worth a try. Good luck.

Just for kicks, I did email CapOne EO and explained my situation and asked for a manual review of my accounts for CLI which would be more in line with my current credit status and my other credit lines with both CapOne (my Vetnure card) and others I have. I expect neither a waiving of my fees nor the CLI but what the heck, why not make a case and ask. I will mostly likely close all three if I get the "sorry, guy" answer I mostly expect.

Also will be closing my CreditOne next week (CL of $1050 with an AF of $96).

Tired of paying and babysittiing piddling $5 and $8 a month fees.)

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Which one of those is your oldest card? I'd recommend seeing if you can make the oldest one a more useable card and just close the others.

Well that was quick. I emailed CapOne EO at 2:30pm EST and at 5:00pm they called me. The gentleman was very nice, very talkative and servicey. Took some general info (salary, housing payment) and asked what I would like the increase on my three low-limit cards to be. I asked that they match the line on my Venture card which is 5K. This is surely a ridiculous request but why not ask? He asked if I would be willing to accept a partial increase if they couldn't approve the full requested amount. I said that depended on the amount and if it made sense for me but the full requested amount on those cards would allow me to keep a lot of my credit business with CapOne.

He said he would be submitting the request to an underwriter for a review and I'd have an answer within 5 business days. He assured me only a soft pull is involved.

For a soft pull and a half hour of my time on a Friday afternoon I'll let them look at it. I'll reassess when they present an offer and am completely prepared to just close 'em up if they don't work for me.

Glad you got thru to EO. If they can't waive the AFs permanantly or PC any of them to a no-fee product, then I would cancel all three. CLIs are irrelevant, given your new accounts.

I realize they are your oldest cards but you will end up shelling out 60+ bucks a year forever! And as others noted, they will still factor into AAoA for 10 years after closing.
