Applied for Amex Green... Pending... Declined?

Hi everyone,

I just applied for the Amex Green charge and almost immediately got the pending message. Does this mean declined? When I called the new account department and did the status check, the system wanted to transfer me to a rep but the office was closed. Do you think they need to verify my id? My EX is like 680-690 is and I have about 5-6 months of credit history, always paying balances in full.

With Amex Pending really means it could go either way. Based on your score I think you will be approved.

Curious what your current utilization is on your one card (also what card is it)? I’m considering going for an amex as my next card and have similar scores.

I have a Boa Cash Rewards Secured Card which I pay in full every month (last month I went to 34% util but now it's 0% again). My other card is a Discover with a balance of like 1100/2500 (taking advantage of 0% balance transfer for 18 month). I have AU cards with low util and a gas card with 12% util.

You only have 5-6 months of history? I don't know how amex feels about that. Your file is really thin.

I was under the impression that Amex would let you get your foot in the door with a charge card. Am I wrong?

Amex gave me my first revolver - ever. Now granted that was 1998, but the requirements for one of their chargers arent all that tough.

Even with a thin file I think you will be fine.

Just got an email acknowledging my application. This seems kind of odd since the application was submitted hours ago. What are your thoughts?

OP, call the new accounts department. The phone number should on Amex's app status page. They probably need to verify some info. I bet they haven't even pulled your CR yet.

I just checked my Experian and you were right, there was no pull. What does this mean?

They might need to confirm your address. Call, but there's no guarantee they'll approve you.

I did add a PO box and a physical address on the application. Which address do they want to verify?

Whichever one already is already on your CR, I would imagine.

By comparing the address you provided on your app (or over the phone) to the one on your CR.

IMO, PO Box is a bad idea. It would raise a red flag.
