Barclaycard denial :(

Very bummed... looking for a second card to help rebuild I have the Cap1 started, with an $1800 CL/$0 balance, but use it regularly and pay off monthly. All baddies are at least 2 years old. Most 4-6 years old. Every past baddie is paid. Lost my job in 2009 and had a really rough year.... but paid it all off and have been really good for the last 2 years. I just recenlty got my first credit card in 10 years. Have had it 6 months and already big CLIs.

Have been seeing folks with lower scores than me get approved, however i applied tonight and DENIED!

ugh! Not sure how to get better cards if no one wants to give me one would settle for a small CL. Boo... crying tears of credit shame lol

I think I read somewhere that barclay likes 1 year of credit history ? you have only had card for six months so far correct? Give it another 6-9 months gardening and maybe you can give it another go

I mean I've got years and years of mortgages, auto loans, etc. Just lived without a CC for 10 years.... and always paid cash for everything. My motto for my life became "if I can't afford to pay cash, I don't need it" Now I need it... because my scores are pretty well stuck unfortunately.

I'm an AU on my sister's account (2+ years, perfect payments, low utilization).... but not sure if that counts?

yeah you probably would have to try and GW those baddies. CCC really don't like to see any of those on your cr. Try and GW like every month or so till you can make some headway. Once my last baddie fell off it really helped my scores , they went up almost 80-90 points.

fixmycredit.... that might be difficult... most of my "baddies" are with tough customers, like Sallie Mae and Santander (who I would rather poke a sharp stick in my eye than deal with again )... lol

I've tried with Sallie Mae, and they won't budge... I finally gave us, as its older... the Santander is a mis-reported late payment. I've disputed it... GW'ed it, you name it. These are the same guys that made it almost impossible for me to pay the Jeep off because they told me I had to pay the last payment via Western Union, not their online bill pay... and MN doesn't allow Western Union payments!!! but that's another story

Maybe I just wait... not sure.. just kinda bummed

if thats case just need to give it time. Just make sure you pay everything on time for next year or two and i think you could get over the 700 point threshold.

you're probably right I don't NEED another credit card that I won't use it's funny.... after 10 years of being CC free.... it took every ounce of strength I had to give the clerk the CC vs. my cash card!! 46 years old ... and scared of my credit card hahahaha..... the thought of a second one isn't as scary

For me i just feel cc are better to use to buy things if you can control your spending habits. i made an budget to help me see what i am spending money on. Getting Cashback/rewards was originally why i started using cc. That was before i realized the extra features cc had over cash

Do not accept the denial. You already took the hp. Barclays is known for their great recons. I was also denied. I called the backdoor number found in the "Helpful' thread sticky and was aproved with $500 limit and only 6 months history and two baddies left on TU. Just explain to them what you did here about why you haven't had cards but that you would really like to establish a relationship with them and BAM, you're in.

I like that strategy myself but paying with CCs. Which card did you apply for? Did you try to get other cards and have a lot of inquiries? Wait for the denial reason and depending what it is you might consider recon ? You took the HP so you might want to try to revert the decision - Good luck!

I got barclay reward card xactly 1 yr credit history with cap1, which already turned into QS1 w/annuan fee perm removed.

You should apply for the Apple finance card first, it is easy to get without having to have a year of solid credit. I applied for it with a TU of 653 (per my fico) and an actual CC enhanced TU of 631 (per Barclay) -- was approved for $1200. I had, and still have 2 unpaid collections and 1 charge-off on TU. I was only in month 8 of rebuilding when I was instantly approved... but I played the 1-9% game before I applied. I waited 3 months, then applied for the Rewards card and was instantly approved for $1300. At the time of my Rewards application I had balances on 8 of my CC's, a few over 30%. I am only in my 11th month of rebuilding.

...so apply again for the Apple...you should get approved for that.

I apped for Rewards MC for Average Credit and got approved on recon with only 6 months cc history. Is that the one you apped for OP? That one and the Apple one are the easiest ones to get approved for. Just call the recon number Monday morning. I think you will be fine.

Minus a few differences, your story is VERY similar to mine. I went without any credit cards for approximately 10 years and just opened a Capital One credit card in May 2014. My issue wasn't the loss of a job, but defaulted student loans (17 of them which is pretty much the only negative thing lingering on my reports). I just applied for the sam Barclaycard a few days ago and was denied, and very upset. Mostly because it added an additional hard inquiry to my TU report and lowered the score a little.

I have also read SO MANY stories from people with lower CSs that have been accepted for the card and since I've had my CapOne open with a very low utilization I thought I had a good chance. I am equally upset, but you shouldn't cry and be ashamed. They told me that my score, utilization, and low inquiries were positives, but the main issue is that they wanted to see how I behave with the card for a longer period of time (9-12 months at least). I think I was just excited about my improved credit and jumped the gun... I have to be more patient I guess!

I plan to send them a reconsideration request letter once I receive their formal letter in the mail. I have heard that a few people have had success with these if they state their case well.

Good luck obtaining more credit in the future! Many of us are in the same boat!!!
