BOA doing PC without my permission?!

Hey, y'all

Question: I have a BankAmericard Cash Rewards Visa card that I opened back in June 2013 with a $500 limit, back in February I asked for a CLI and they brought it to $1500. It's NEVER been a secured card, if that helps.

Anyway, I log in to my account and see they've renamed my card to 'Cash Rewards Platinum Plus Visa'. The last four digits of the card has apparently changed as well. (I'm also thinking if I tried to buy something online right now, my card would decline :/)

Is this an upgrade or downgrade? And why would it be done without my permission or at least prior notice? I recently paid the card off ($200 or so balance) last month, and ended up getting a refund from a store that actually ended up giving me a postive balance of $44 on the card.

I've emailed customer service to find out, but just curious if this has happened to anyone else.

If a lender discontinues a card that's not uncommon; this sounds more housekeeping-ish than anything else from the description but should be fairly easy to compare rewards before and after based on product descriptions... I'm guessing it's still the artist formerly known as 1-2-3 rewards.

BOFA also is doing some housekeeping on the checking account side too, just got a notice that my MyAccess checking was changing, yours could have been part of a larger product refresh.

"Platinum Plus" is the Visa "tier" level. I had no idea Bank of America had a tier below Platinum Plus.

(The tier above Platinum Plus would be Signature.)

It's a Visa benefits level change, that's all. They may have discontinued the other or simply think you're a better borrower. It has to be a new card number but everything else remains the same. Your current card will work up until activation of the new card they will be sending you.

Thanks, y'all. I feel a whole lot better now but I was in panic mode lol Because I looked on their website and saw no 'platinum plus' card so I was nervous. Then when I tried to research, I saw a bunch of old threads with people saying theirs was a secured card. lol I didn't know what to think, but I think I can relax now. lol

Ok, so my bad.. Mine has been Platinum plus ever since I have the card..

I am really new here, so can anyone maybe explain what signature is? What's the difference between those cards? Why is it a upgrade or something?

Here is are the differences between Visa's "Traditional" cards (Platinum/Platinum Plus) and their Signature cards. Generally a "Signature" Visa card requires a CC limit of at least $5K.

It's also possible that your card was compromised, or they suspect it might have been. I've had my BofA Platinum Plus VISA card replaced without my involvement several times in the last couple of years, and I usually find out when the number changes or disappears altogether from online banking. Mine was never secured either. Live chat, call in, or secure email should get to the bottom of it.
