Is GE BK Friendly?

I mentioned this question in another topic earlier today under 'Lowes Question' recently. Hoping for additional input. I have always been under the impression that GE was BK friendly. I have a $5,000 corporate CL with Amazon (GE) and everytime I buy something and try and check out is say "my account qualifies for special financing. 12 months interest free with the Amazon Store Card." However, when I click on the 'Apply' link, the application states that your credit must be free from bankruptcies.

I not only have the one year old Amazon Corporate Line through GE, but I also have an 18 month old Walmart card with them. My 2007 BK has never been a problem and I have never seen this with GE. WHAT GIVES? Is this something new?

My 05 BK was reporting when I got approved last year for the Amazon CC. Generally, GECRB is open to those at least 2+ years out of BK, but some have got back in with them in less time.

I have apped right on thru such admonishments with BK-7 and was approved without a recon.

around 27 months out of chapter 7...wal-mart, lowes, and amazon all approved

I got the 4 GE cards you see in my sig (76, Chevron, Walmart, Care Credit) all within 4 months of my discharge last year.

I also filed Ch 13, not Ch 7. I did not have any prior accounts with them either.

I can speak for myself that GE is most definitely BK friendly. I am 9 mo post BK 7, and in Feb of this year I was approved for Walmart, JCP, and GAP. ( was 6 mo post BK7 at the time ). I also IIB all those cards too. Then GE approved me for 76 gas card in march, and this month amazon. I have a thick file though. But everyone is different. Some people don't get approved at all for any of the cards till 2-4 yrs out, some (very rare).. Like me, Get approved for within months post BK with them.

As a matter fact, I just got off the phone with Credit Solution about an hour ago.....denied without any counter offer.

July would be a yr since I opened them. I am closing GE cards if I dont see no action by the end of july.

I've had my 4 GE cards for 6+ months and haven't got anything till Walmart gave me a $100 (That's $100, not $1000) auto CLI last month. Regardless of all the "GE gives CLI every 4 months" you read that is plastered all over these forums I would say without question that while yes, they may be BK friendly when it comes to giving out cards I would say no they aren't when it comes to increases.

I applied 2 mo post discharge in Sept 2013 and was denied for an Old Navy card. I applied again 7 mo post discharge for GE care credit and was denied. I'm just about post 1 year but am afraid to apply. So far Capital one & Barclay's have been good to me.

I experienced the same thing as PlasticOrPlastic. Every GE card I applied for was declined until I reached the 4 year mark after BK. Since then I've been approved for about 3 different GE cards, and I've even received CLI's on a couple of the accounts. I have heard that some people have no problem. I did have accounts prior to my BK that GE closed, although I didn't burn them on any of the accounts in the BK. Maybe the fact that they had closed accounts prior makes a difference. Anyway, it seems like the 4 year mark is the magic number.
