My patience hath runnith out with Discover.

I've never, ever, ever, have had a company be so picky. I'm apping for the secured card.

Got an email stating I need to upload proof of bank ownership. They said a statment or a voided check. I don't use checks, so I uploaded a bank statment.

They said it wouldn't work, needs to show the full account number. I told them I've been with 5 different banks, NO BANK shows the full account # on a statement for security purposes. Otherwise someone could steal a statment, get the routing number, and drain your account.

So I called my credit union and had them snail me a letter on official letterhead signed by the branch manager stating, yes I do have an account with them, yes my full account number is XXXXXX, and my full address is XXXX.

Got a phone call. Won't work, they said they needed the routing number also.

I told them its on their website, they said they need to "verify the routing number".

I told them "why the hell do you need to VERIFY a routing number? It's not an number specific to each account, it's used for EVERYONE who banks there!".

Even called the supervisor, no dice.

Now I'm going to have to recall the bank, and have them mail me another letter that has both my bank account and routing number on it.

This is total BS. If this letter don't work I'm never going to consider them again in the future.

I stopped by credit one's pre qualifer today...

Reason I'm not approved?

Insufficient utilization on open accounts

Lol! Just the other month it was due to high utilization!

Not to be rude or anything but here is the honest truth. You are in NO position to be complaining about not getting approved for credit cards when you are applying every single day for unnecessary credit. I remember reading your other posts where you stated you have over 30 inquiries and was wondering why you weren't getting approved. That's why! You have an extremely thin file and a million inquiries. To creditors, you look desperate. You need to garden your credit profile. You have extremely low limits and trying to rush the credit process isn't going to make the journey any easier.

sorry to hear about your ordeal OP but banks have every right to ask for accurate documents for any type of approval. Do you have an account with any of the major banks? As far as i know, Wells Fargo, Chase, BofA do show full account number when i want to downloand my statements. If you have accounts with any of them you will see the full info Discover is requiring. If not succesful then garden for about 6 months and try them again. Like many posters have suggested, you will get there, its just a matter of patience and some gardening...good luck buddy.

Sounds like your biggest priority is seeing yourself as being right and the banks / credit bureaus as being wrong. Well, as someone said, "Do you want to be right, or happy?" I would paraphrase it as "Do you want to be right, or have excellent credit and juicy credit lines?" FICO is as simple as math. It just means accepting and playing by their rules. You can have your own rules and no credit, or their rules and high-limit cards.

OP, Is this the bank account you are trying to use for "funding" of your new secured card and you don't have a voided check?

This might make a little more sense on Discovers side if you are trying to fund with this account... all the I's and T's have to dot and cross!

+1. With the OP's credit file, you have to play by the lender's rules. You can't afford to be too picky at this point in your credit journey.
