PC Richards - Pre Approved?

GA All,

I was in PC Richards yesterday to purchase a PS3 for my son. The sales agent as he was ringing me up asked the usuall electronic store question (phone number address name etc). After inputting the info he advised me that I was preapproved for a PC Richards Card and did I want to except it. I said sure. I had to verify some identidy info over the phone (in the store) and wham bam a spankning new PC Richards card (3500 cl). My highest limit of all of my GEMB cards.

Here is the question. How were they able to pre approve me with so little information? They did do a hard pull. I assume that was done after the pre approval.

Where/what kind of store is this? I wish Gamestop/EB Games had a card...I'd be all over that.

WBLAKE - Same thing happened to me back in July 2006. I went into PC Richard Bay Plaza to buy an AC $200 I handed the sales guy my Debit Card and he stated to me that I was preapproved for the card for $3000. I was shocked and asked him how was he able to give me a card WITHOUT my SS #. He replied the system randomly AUTOMATICALLY approves with only your name (I never heard of this). What do you know after he told me I was already approved %100 I then gave him my SS #, and was able to put that AC on the card with 12 months no interest. Being LITERALLY GIVEN the card and having 12 months no interest actually made me purchase the 2 year extended warranty from them. So I walked out money still on my debit card and a new card. Whats more crazy is that my credit was horrible back 2 years ago at least 3 unpaid CA and scores in the upper 500's. This card has grown while the most I have ever charged on it was $900 since paid, two weeks ago I called and received a $600CLI w/o a hard inq.
