Just got a new credit card from BoA and Barclay's. Was told by a BoA rep my credit score is good, but needs to show positive credit history with my cards before getting a credit line incrase. What's a good time frame to have positive credit usage with my cards before asking BoA for a cli? Does anyone know a time frame for Barclay's as well?

I would say 6 months is a good rule of thumb, as that is when most banks will allow your first request for a CLI. Amex allows at 61 days, but thats a different story...

BoA will most likely be a HP for the CLI, though.

With Barclay, if you use their card regulalry, AND carry at least a small balance, you'll get an increase every 6 months. At least that was my experience.

With BOA, I never asked them for an increase because I "thought" I remembered back then people saying it was a hard pull.

But, they gave me one on their own after about a year or so.

My CL went from 7.5k to 9.5K about 2-3 years ago and that's where it's been since.

So I guess I would give BOA anywhere from 6 months to a year before requesting an increase.

Barclays auto increased me from $1500 to $5000 at the 6th month mark, and I asked for a CLI from BofA at 10 months, it was a HP but they gave me a $4700 CLI.
