I've recently gotten approval for the Amex Blue Cash Everyday.. and was wondering about backdating, if its possible and/or advisable.

I've never had Amex before, but my husband had one opened in June 1992; I was authorized on it and the account was closed at creditors request. On our 2005 CR's it shows Paid, Closed/Never late. I don't remember now why it was closed, if we just stopped using it or if they had some reason to close it.

Would it be possible for me to add him as an AU; then ask for backdating or should he get his own Amex and ask for that. Or, since we're both in the 700's with our scores and I'm unsure as to why the account was closed should I just leave it alone and be glad for where our credit is now.

Unfortunatley, you wont be able to backdate unless you were the owner of an account. AU's do not influence backdating.

But yes, your husband can open an account on his own, backdate it, and add you as an AU on that card.

As for opening another account under his name for the purpose of backdating, that is a personal desicion.

It can work either way. Since you were an AU on his card, you have an in.

Give him AU on your card and ask them to backdate to his old card...so that you have the same Member Since year. Or, he can get his own card, backdate, add you as AU, backdate that AU (wont report as aged account on CR) then backdate your own cards.

They recently changed their policy on AUs, they no longer get backdating privledges. My accounts are backdated to 1990 however my AU cards have a MSD of 2014

It may be a company policy but lately it's been based on the individual CSR discretion?

I was an AU on my mothers cards and mine were backdated. I think it's a YMMV thing.

I think I'll give it a shot and have him apply... what's the worst that can happen?!

From what I've read - the Delta card is the easiest revolver approval and the Green card is the easiest charge card approval - Any thoughts on what would be the easiest approval?

You should be able to have your MSD corrected even though you were only the AU on a card as long as you now have your own personal card.

I was an AU on my father's card in the 90s and recently opened my own card. The MSD request was handled quickly and easily.
