I have recently been told about the great benefits available with the Alaskan Airline card and would like to apply but am curious if anyone know what the credit requirements are for this card? I was told they are a bank if America card.
I have recently applied for the chase sapphire and amex blue card and was declined for both. I am currently at a 650 fico.

It is a BoA card, which I personally don't like. I tolerate BoA because

the AlaskaAir card is useful for my situation. BoA isn't outlandishly

bad, just they fall short of Amex, Chase, Barclays, USAA in my opinion.

I think at 650 you are close to their entry level requirements. The

Alaska card app is for a signature card by default, but they have

a standard Visa option they can offer to applications that don't make

the signature criteria. I'm pretty sure the criteria for a standard visa

Alaska card is quite a bit looser than for a CSP or Amex blue. If you

don't mind risking an inquiry (probably on all 3 CRA's), then you are

in the ballpark but not a slam dunk.

I see far more AK visa cards in public than any other card. They are

everywhere around Anchorage and very common in Seattle. Conversely,

I never see an AK visa in public when I'm not in an AK hub city (Anchorage,

Seattle, Portland, L.A.). The card is only useful if you fly Alaska, but if you

live in the Alaska service area, it is probably the best frequent flyer program left.

If you do get a standard Visa with a lower CL, when the time comes

for a CLI request, I'd app for another card rather than bump up an

existing one. The AK visa has a limited churnability for sign up bonuses.

You can app for a new card and cancel the old one every year or two for

the bonus.

Good luck

I think 650 Fico score is a little low for the BoA Alaska Airlines card. What does the rest of your reports look like? Negatives, aaoa, utilization, etc...

Basically you send a letter, certified mail, to the original creditor and plead your case for them to update the status of the account. It can be discouraging because results are not instant, but when you get one of them to "goodwill" a derogatory, it feels pretty darn good. It's really the most important part of rebuilding. Check out the rebuilding forum, there's a lot of good info and insight over there.

Back to the cards, have you tried Barclays pre-qualifier? You might have a chance with their "Rewards card for average credit"

https://www.barclaycardus.com/apply/ProactivePrescreenLanding.action

IMO, a 650 FICO is borderline low for BoA; However, one app for the Alaska Airlines card could qualify you for 1 of the 3 "tiers" either the Signature ($5000 +), Platinum ($2000-$4999), or Preferred (less than $2000). So, if you are borderline you could possibly get approved for a lower tier card.

The Alaska Airlines card will be one of my next cards. The mileage program is great for me living in the PNW (just relocated for work), and the great partner programs they have with Delta & American Airlines where they offer the perks just as if you were on their FF programs as well. The main airlines I would use are Alaska, Delta, and American to fly anywhere we would need to fly to so it works out great for us. Plus, they have some of the cheapest nonstop flights to Hawaii as well, which is MUCH cheaper than we use to price from the middle of the US.

Anyway, good luck!
