So far my Chase experience has been very good. I applied for their Freedom in June of last year, starting out with a $5,000 limit. At around the 9 month mark I received an auto increase to $7,500. No email notification or anything, I just logged on and to my surprise saw the increase.

I also have a Chase Sapphire and just recently asked for a credit limit increase from $5,000 to $10,000. When asked for a reason, I just said I wanted to transfer $3,000 over and didn't want to have my report show really high utilization. Took a pull on my credit, but it was definitely worth it.

Here's a quick breakdown of my current credit cards....

Capital One Platinum - Started: $500 - Current: $2000 (7 years old)

Chase Amazon VISA - Started: $1000 - still $1000 (about 3 years old)

AmEx Blue Cash - Started: $2000 - Current: $6000 (5ish months old)

Discover IT - Started: $4800 - still $4800 (about 2 weeks after the AmEx, just for the FICO)

My routine is use the AmEx for everything, and use the Amazon Visa for everywhere AmEx isn't accepted. I want to start just using one card, so I figured I'd check out the Chase Freedom. I applied for it, and got approved at a $500 limit O.o. Is this something I can expect out of Chase? Horrible limits? No increases like the Chase Amazon? I was hoping the Amazon one was just because it's not one of the big Chase cards. Is it even worth it to use the Freedom? Or just stick with my current routine.

Most people are saying $300 increases every once in a while, and not that often. By the time I reach even what I STARTED AT with my Discover, it'll be years. I want to use just one card, make my wallet a little lighter, have less statements to reconcile, but I just can't see it being worth it. Not with this card. With the usage I put on my cards, I'll have to make 5-6 payments a month, when I can just make 1 with my AmEx.

Chase rarely gives auto-CLIs, and nearly all CLI you request result in a HP. Those who do get autos are those that start with a low CL (so if you start with $500, you might get some up to some figure, if you start with $5K, much less likely)

What people have found, which goes against your wish for a lighter wallet, is it is better to apply for another Chase card (and maybe transferl CL) than attempt to get CLIs.

Chase doesn't seem to be over generous with Amazon and Freedom limits. CSP, Hyatt, Marriott, UA Club are some they seem more generous with. As for CLI, you have to really use your limit before they hand out more credit.

I called the executive office to try to get my APR lowered. She said I had no offers at this time. I asked what that meant. She told me they SP every 6 months to check how you are doing. So I think that would be it for auto CLI as well.

I got my Chase Freedom about 11 months ago with a $1,200 CL. After 6 months, I got an auto CLI to $2,200. So I'm pretty pleased so far. It's very much YMMV.

If you can afford the HP, Id call em and ask for a CLI. Thats what I did. My freedom was at $500 for over a year and I called and asked em for a $5700 limit to match my CSP. They did. They also auto increased my CSP after a few months from $5700 to $8700. Not sure why but I'll take it.

Really depends on one's credit. First two Chase cards I applied for last year were both approved with $25K limits each. I have never received a CLI from Chase but I know I hit my internal limit with them. My wife, however, has received 2 auto CLI's on her Chase card

+1

I applied for both the Csp and Freedom within four days of each other with the exact 19.4k CL. I don't think I will ever get a CLI but why would I ever need any more.

I applied for a chase Freedom the other day. My scores are over 720. Utilization about 40%. no collections..no missed payments. No recent accounts. Income 80k.

When I applied it was not instant approved so I called backdoor for Recon. The credit analyst told me the system declined it because I had a student loan where the balance was greater than the initial balance. She reviewed my file and then only approved me for $500. I told them they can take their card and shove it. (nicely) I had higher limits when I was subprime.

At least my scores didn't budge when the inquiry hit!

Chase gave me a $6k limit on my Freedom when I opened it September of 2012. They quickly gave me a $1,500 auto cli. Sometime last month Chase auto cli'ed my Freedom to $11K. The worst part is in going through my junk mail, I found an expired offer letter from Chase to request a sp cli. All I needed to do was provide updated income information and the amount of additional credit I desired.
