what is black card?

my friend said that she went on a date with a guy she knew from online dating site and he has a black card... i definitely heard of it.. but never saw it and don't know how it looks like.. and not sure what people can be qualified either.. my friend said that it's not just about the credit.. it's also about the money you have in the bank?

If you are getting twice the airline mileage purchasing power, I don't see what is so bad about it. The airfare mileage will pay for the card - so it's a wash. It seems to me that this card is Barclay's version of the American Express Centurian, and Chase's Palladium. Except not so exclusive.

The Black Card is usually a reference to the stainless-steel (formerly carbon-fiber) black Visa from BarclayBank.
Most people on this forum, have reported that it's benefits are not very impressive, and certainly not worth the extremely high annual fee.

Sometimes, "black card" is used to describe the American Express Centurion card. That card is made of titanium metal, with a black annodized finish. It has a much larger annual fee, and is available by invitation to those of high net-worth, and has very high annual spending requirements.
There has been a great deal of debate, as to whether the cost is worth it - but my guess is that anyone who would question its value, probably wouldn't qualify for it anyway.

Also, remember that there are many, many regular old credit cards now capitalizing on the term "black" to distinguish themselves, to the point where it has become as meaningless as the terms "gold card" and "platinum", so don't be too impressed with such terms.

Most people that talk about a "black card" don't really know what they are talking about. They used to mean the Amex Centurion, and now it means some Barclays poor reward program card that just says "The black card" and costs $400+ a year for no benefit whatsoever. Except to trick women during online dating and impress high school kids =) =) =)

Funny this thread came up. Barclay's has been sending me tons of offers lately. I got the "Black Card" offer today in the mail - interesting just 2 weeks after I upgraded my Amex to Platinum (not that Barclay's can see this, but still very interesting). The packaging was nice and had an exclusive feel to it, but my Platinum AF is already high enough. I don't need another high AF card.

Others have mentioned too about the Amex Centurion card, aka the Black Amex. It carries a $7500 "initiation fee" and a $2500 annual fee. However, this is a drop in the bucket for those who get offerred the card. Rumors have it that it takes charging around $250k/year through a Platinum card to qualify.

i agree with NonsufficentFunds, black card used to mean something now its becoming very common like gold and platinum. A lot of credit card issuers offer black cards as an alternate design when you sign up/apply. Credit One Bank and Discover both have black cards and are both very different banks so it just depends.
