Have you ever had an Amex before? Did you have a charge off or include them in bankruptcy before? Just curious because that could explain the instant denial. They might have blacklisted you if that's the case.

But, either way I would definitely call and speak to a human regarding your application status. Let us know if you need the number, it's found in the helpful thread sticky at the top of the forum.

Ok, I called and now I'm really upset. The cutomer service rep ran down a long list of reasons for the denial per Experian.

Number of accounts with high credit line.

Too many credit inq. (How many is too many? I have two now, including Amex)

Length of credit history (How long do they want it?)

Not enough installment loan info.

Credit score too low. (They said 684)

Too few accounts paid as agreed (Does that mean my payment history is bad or that I just don't have enough cards? I've never paid a card late EVER!)

Am I in the twilight zone? I checked it just this morning my score was 768!

Keep it, Amex. I'm all set.

I think the computer Is programed to add that on a denial.

Meaning if you maxed everything your income couldn't support it. That's kind of where I'm at so I don't apply because I'm sure I'm close with a $25k net income and $49950 worth of credit available. If you had all cards paid off and one card at 1%-9% the computer would aprove you next time. People can't normally over turn them. I saw a denial a day or so ago of a unpaid $7 that the op had when he was 14. He got it overturned by going into the bank but still.

I purchased the score.

I can see my income being low for the amount of credit I already have. I didn't think about that.

I don't understand the 84 point difference in score or how one inquiry is too many though. No big deal, I don't need more credit. I've never had an Amex and thought I'd apply. Definitely wasn't expecting a denial.
