AMEX will not backdate

Hey all,

I recently got approved for the everyday card by Amex. I originally opened my first account with them in 2010 - but after undergoing a FR it ended with my accounts being closed. Today I called the application status phone number and asked if my new card will be backdated to 2010. They stated that since my accounts were closed it would not and i would get member since 2014.

Is there anyway to have them change this? Another number I can call?

I asked for my MSD to be changed over Live Chat and it was done in a matter of minutes. I had called in to customer service twice and they said they couldn't do it.

Backdating was the wrong question to ask. You should have asked to get my member since date corrected. Chances are they wouldn't have even questioned it if you gave the original member since date. This is from what I have read on the forum.

Do not use the term back date, ask them to change the member since date

Apologies, I did not use the term backdate when I called. I just say it since it's the term we use here. I will call once more when I get the card and ask to correct the member since date.

Chat is really the way to go here. They'll even automatically overnight you replacement card.

Thanks for the advice. Connected them via chat and explained. They immediately looked up the account (even though I haven't received the card) and were able to process the member since date to 2010.

I asked over the phone and the CSR stated that they could not do it as well, Next day I tried live chat and asked CSR if he could change my "MEMBER SINCE DATE" he stated that he could and 5 minutes later it was done.

I have a question I apped for the bce in 2013 and everyday in 2014... Will it be member since 2014 o4 2013?

It should be 2013. And if it's not, easily start a chat with them and they will fix it.

My experience when contacting CSRs over the phone is there's almost always problems. Perhaps people make judgements about others based on tone of voice?

Via online chat, things seem to go much smoother. Almost no issue whatsoever when dealing with AMEX. Perhaps online CSRs are better trained or assume that online users are smarter?

Before I received my BCE, I called to see if my MSD could be corrected. I was told that I had to wait until I received the card. So I tried chat and, the next day, they updated my online info and expedited a new card. I actually got my "1998" card before my "2014" card

The first number member since date is month the second number is year you became a member. If you got your first card 12/2013 and then you got a second card January 2014 that second card would have member since

1/2013 gaining a whole year on paper from the first card on your credit report. Where really you had it a shorter amount of time.
