AMEX backdate with different AMEX card?

Hello! If I previously had the green, and then gold AMEX card (cancelled it 20 years ago) and now get the Delta Gold AMEX, will this Delta card get backdated on my credit reports? Way back then I don't think they had a Delta card, pretty much I think they just had the green, gold, platinum etc.. cards. thanks!

If it isn't, ask them to correct your member since date. Do not ask them to back date your current card. If you ask them to back date, I guess they run into problems. I guess it can be done with online chat the easiest.

so far the member date on my brand new card is 2014, but when I access my account online it says 1994. I'm waiting to see what will show up on my credit report. If it does show up as 1994, this would be an easy trick to get my AAOA up. I would just apply for another AMEX card and have 2 cards on my report since 1994! Sounds too good to be true though

Backdating is one of the really great things about Amex. It is a really easy way to bolster AAoA.

Go on chat as long as it says it on your account. Ask them to correct your card it's easy now as your account has 1994. They will send you a new card right away. There is no need to wait.

I got my member since date corrected and my online account is showing up the right year. Does it mean the same year will be reported? My first statement cut was 2 days ago. I pulled my EX today, nothing showed up.

I'm 99% positive that mine said the same on my new card (MS 2014), but when I asked for the chipped card 10 days later, it came with MS 1999, and it also said 1999 on my online account. A few days ago and two statements closing, it just hit my report with an opening date of May 12, 1999. I hadn't had an AmEx account since 2001.

Mine also arrived with the current year listed on the card, but upon activating the card the online account manager then said 2007. It reported as such.

Can you tell me if your new card is the same as the old? Like was it a gold amex, and you got another gold amex? I had the gold amex and my new card is the Delta amex so I'm not sure if this would count for backdating since it's a different card.

Doesn't matter when AmEx introduced the card. It will be backdated to the year of your MSD. The original Blue wasn't introduced until 1999. My MSD is 1998. My BCP is backdated to 1998.

I had a corporate card back in 95. Not sure what product it was but it was green. I was the ceo and carpet layer. Had no issue in getting all my current personal cards backdated.

Wow, this is unreal. So in theory, if I apply for 2 more amex cards and get accepted, I would gave 3 cards (including the card I just got) show up next month on my credit report showing an age of 20 years old -- should give a big boost to my score with the only negative being an inquiry or two? I think the only thing holding me back from the 800 club is my AAOA. My current scores from are all around 765-790, so this "trick" should help greatly!

My card was the Blue....introduced in 1999, one of the first to get it! I now have the gold skymiles card.

YEP. Happened to me just last week. My AAoA was 2-3 years.. this week it jumped to 6-7 years. I still have one more AMEX account that hasn't reported this month.

I would prefer not to think fo this as a trick but a membership advantage. But hurry while supplies last.

I honestly don't believe having AAoA over 5 years will do much for most. I've been tracking my scores with each change for the past several months and will find out what an extra 18.5 years TL will do by this time next week. One thing I do know now is that when AAoA is below five years I'll be sure to add a new AMEX account.

As you get more and more tradelines (open or closed) the impact of backdating reduces. So when my Blue Cash backdated to 1987 it increased AAoA by about 4 months, with no great impact on score. But it can certainly help early on, or as Fico2Go suggests, to "reset" AAoA when getting a lot of new cards. (In the latter case with thick files, even though the impact of backdating is diluted, so is the impact of the new cards!).
