How can I get Amex to honor creditcards.com offer?

Hi Everyone,

I was approved for the BCE with American Express, but when I spoke with the representative they told me I have their basically useless no good offer that they have on Amex website. The only problem is, I applied through creditcards.com so I should have the 0% APR for 15 months, plus spend $1000 get $100. How should I go about enforcing this?

I would like to also note I got approved for the Delta Skymiles last year, and I applied through creditcards.com, and was able to get the special promotion. I don't understand what's so different this time.

What offer did AMEX give you??

Personally, I never app via a third party site. I always go right to the source. Not saying it wouldn't work, it's just my preference.

0% for 6 months. That's it. Like I stated, I got my Delta Amex through creditcards.com and I was able to get a better offer than what Amex was offering. I just want to go about this the right and effective way.

The length of their 0% offer is likely in direct relation to your overall credit picture.

What does your EX report look like? What is your length of history?? Any negatives reporting??

Not everyone gets the same deal....believe me!

No, it's not. If you go to Amex website that is their current offer.

I will just try to research further. I didn't know if anyone had any knowledge of whether their EO or backdoor numbers would help.

I had a similar situation back in February with the BCE. The creditcards.com offer showed one thing, but the landing page on the AMEX site clearly stated that my welcome bonus was different because I had been identified as a current member. I'm guessing this may have happened in your case, too. I ended up going with the BCP instead through the AMEX website which was offering 0% and a statement credit at the time.

I think what is different this time is you are a current AE member. AE no longer gives sign up bonuses for current members.

To get a new sign up bonus, you will need to cancel all of your existing AE cards for 3 months. Then you will be eligible for sign up bonuses for cards you have not received a sign up bonus for in the past. Or at least that is what I recall from reading the fine print when I applied for a card last month.

Thanks Creditdunce that helps a lot too. I may just leave it alone. I was not necessarily signing up for the bonus anyway. I wanted to do a PC from my Delta skymiles, but they changed their terms and you can only pc within the hotel/travel cards now. So since I have no balance I decided to go ahead take the hard inquiry, get my member since date back dated and transfer credit limits as well as close the delta.

I thought i read somewhere with amex you only get one signup bonus for your whole life!! I don't know how true that is, since i havent signed up for any new amex cards since my BCP last year.

Sorry OP, looks like this is an issue for the EO since credicards.com is a affiliated site.

This is why I always recommend taking screenshots of the landing page (which shows the offer and your info filled out) and approval pages whenever you're applying, especially through an affiliated site or responding to a mail offer.

I originally screen shot my approval page. I'll do this too. I just wonder if I should go to EO? Trying to go to the right department.

A little off topic, but I never received an email when I was approved for this second card. I subsequently talked to both a regular CSR and the new account line CSR, and they both said they see my approval. The new account line rep said they only send emails for car acceptance at random, so not everyone gets an email. I thought that was a little odd.

I believe I read the same here on myfico. But I don't think that is what AE exactly said. I think the actaul statement was you would never be able to get the signup bonus for the same card. A quick search found the following quote:

“In order to ensure fairness and clarity with our Card Members, we will be making a change to our acquisition incentive control rules for American Express Consumer Cards. Beginning May 2, 2014, welcome bonus offers will not be available to applicants who have or have had the Card they’re applying for. For example, if a Card Member once had or has a Platinum Card, they will not be eligible to receive a welcome bonus offer on a new Platinum Card application.”

In the fine print when I applied, I think it just said something like you currently have any other AE card or have ever had the card you are applying for. I am just guessing about needing 3 months since canceling your last AE card and applying for a new card. But it seems reasonable that you will need to wait 90 days or so before applying again.

Please don't take my word as gospel. Since I plan on keeping the AE card "forever", I didn't do extensive research in their new policy. I just noted that I wouldn't qualify for any more signup bonuses.

Because of people like us, Amex has become very strict with bonuses.

It is because you are an exisitng cardholder that the 0% period is SHORTER. Whenever I am logged in, it says 0% ONLY for 6 months. Logged out it says the 12 or 15 mos, whatever.

I just paid my annual fee of $95 since my Delta GOld just turned a year old :-P

On most of the apps now, they have the red letter that says if you are an existing cardholder, you will not receive any bonus or promo.

Thank heavens I got my free trip before they stopped all that stuff. LOL

I don't have much of a use for the Delta for the next year so I'll be closing it out. Not to mention I have consistenly had very bad experiences with Delta. But of course I will not be closing it until I transfer that CL!!
