I've heard so many great things from here about the generous CLs NFCU offers, so I decided to come out of the garden and app. My USAA FAKO for EX/EQ/TU is 749/722/739, respectively, I'm not sure how much off my FICO is, but I figured approval odds were good regardless. I apped for the Flagship Signature Visa and got approved for only $5000 when my avg. CL is around $7000 right now. I was pretty bummed.

I tried asking for more when I was told I was approved and was told that was the maximum I qualified for. I read on here someone had success with calling back a week later mentioning they wanted to transfer balances. Anyone had success with this or otherwise? Any tips for how I may be able to squeeze a better CL out of them or do I need to wait? I really don't want to have to take another HP just to get a CLI on this thing.

Any help is appreciated!

When I asked the woman on the phone she also told me there was no way of getting a CLI with them unless you HP, which I've read otherwise online, so maybe she just didn't know what she was doing :\

I helped out my boyfriend and both my parents with apping for NFCU cards. They all have significantly lower income, lower scores, and a couple old baddies, but somehow, they ALL got approved for a higher CL than me!

I apped for a Flagship card for myself but nRewards cards for them. Any possibility that has something to do with it? I am just completely dumbfounded by this! Hopefully I hear back from my secure message with some better news but I am just floored if $5000 is the max I'm getting when they're getting $6000-14,000 with mediocre-at-best credit

-_____-

whats your AAoA, do you normally bank with NFCU? do the other have better AAoA or do more business with NFCU? how long have you been with NFCU? these are just some things to think about when you talk about any creditor. most will look at some one with a low score "better" if they have a long AAoA or do a lot of business with them already.

Each of them only have 1-2 tradelines and their AAoA is <2 years.

My AAoA is ~3.5 years, I'm also a new NFCU member. So, considering we're all equal in terms of existing relationship (none) with NFCU, my credit score is about 100 points higher, AAoA is over twice as long, and income is more than triple, I can't understand why my CL would be less than theirs.

I know according to Discover my FICO is a 702, but I don't know how accurate that is or even what bureau they use. The only other scores I get are one from CapitalOne and Credit Karma, both of which are in the 695 range. I just got approved for a Chase IHG Mastercard with a $9000 limit, so I have to assume my score is well within the 700s.

well that very odd, have they sent you the paperwork saying that checked your credit with equifax yet? what were the comments? I have a little over 700 fico (per NFCU), i'm a student have one card for the last 3 years with them 2500 limit, they just gave me a 20k limit visa last month. I do have 6 old bad accounts from 2010 that are paid, i have about 15k with them in savings/checking. i don't use them for my main bank but i do keep some money there. my wife just started this month using them as her main bank (so she is new member), score just shy of 800, income about 75k same job for 6 years after grad school she got 22.5k.

NFCU pulled TU, so maybe my TU FICO is actually right below 700, but even if that's the case, I still would have to be at least 50-75 points higher than either of them. Crazy to me!

I'm surprised they didn't have you thaw EQ. NFCU has only pulled TU once for me that's when I joined. ALL credit apps (CC's, LOC, & auto) have always been EQ.

They did make me answer verification/public record questions which leads me to believe it is frozen. I would've rather them pulled EQ because I'm sure it's higher. No clue why they would've pulled TU instead, let alone twice.
