Right, so I am new to credit. I had a clean slate of credit, no good history, no bad history - until December 2013 in which I got an auto loan.

Since then, I have been paying it on time, no missed or late payments. I have Chase checking and Chase savings. I have never had a credit card. The only other credit history I have is a phone from T-Mobile, which is also 100% on time payments. I went to the bank in person and applied there - instantly denied by computer. Insufficient credit history. So I followed the advice of this forum, and called the recon number, and the man I spoke to was very polite and nice, but I was denied again. They want longer credit history, or more established credit.

So......instead, I went and accepted the mail offers I have been getting from Capital One. I applied online and got approved instantly today.

Do I lose any hope of Chase Freedom until 2015? I think recon, in my case, has no effect because of insufficient history? What do you guys think?

If you have a chase bank account with sufficient money on deposit then I do not think it is much of a concern for the freedom at least. With no prior relationship I would say they would want to see at least six months of active revolver history.

I am in no means a pro at any of this what so ever but I can tell you my situation is very similar to yours... I have been recently on a credit comeback... I gave up on my credit back in 2002 - did not pay attention to my credit at all, just gave up and let everything take it's course... It wasn't until 2012 that I qualified for an auto loan (high interest mind you, I'm still paying) with 100% on-time payments... Then it wasn't until this April that "all this" started up again for me... So basically I had no good history, no bad history (again, everything fell off my file - clean slate)... Just this past week I got approved for my current "Dream Card" - The Chase Freedom... Never thought I'd get it, had a plan, but never thought I'd get it (at least just yet) - I had already gotten declined twice (second time, I recon'd - denied but with excellent advice) by Chase mind you (I too have a Checking & Savings with them)... I took a chance & went for it a third time AND got approved... I may not have the greatest CL or APR but still approved... With the momentum that I have been going, I have always kept positive!!! As of today I am still a bit dissappointed with my CL & APR (BUT) I am going to keep my momentum going, remain positive, and just do & go for what my goal is - I know I will achieve them... So if this helps you any, which I hope it does, then stay positive and just do & go for your goal!!! If I can do it, YOU CAN DO IT!!!

P.S. myFICO & the community - consider them GOLD!!! - By reading, learning, understanding, & executing (wisely), YOU WILL DO IT!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

I'd say you could even try to recon again. Just explain that you are really trying to build your credit and you Chase to be your bank for everything. Maybe even tell them youd be willing to take a small limit to get established. I've seen some people get approved for Chase after multiple recons. It can just be a matter of finding the right rep.

Other then that just apply again after Cap1 reports for about 6 months..

Cap 1 will give cards with low limits to people who may not be able to get cards from other lenders at all. These people subsequently improve their credit with the cap 1 card and start to get cards from other lenders with much higher limits. Then these people get mad that cap one does not increase their limits, because they think their limits should go up because their credit increased. The problem with that logic is that their initial card tends to be a sub-prime card which cap 1 rarely lets grow beyond a certain point. If someone with good credit applies for a prime cap 1 card then they tend to get a credit line more worthy of their credit report (keeping in mind that cap 1 is a very conservative lender so they will not usually be giving out credit lines as high as someone like amex or chase). Cap 1 is a decent lender for what they do, but people must have realistic expecations and understand how they function before apping.
