My wife is about to apply for the Costco Amex and ideally I'd like a card with it. Obviously she will have a hard inquiry but will adding me to the account create a hard inquiry for me? I'm trying to avoid them right now

Only if its a joint account otherwise if your just an Authorized User which still gives you a card will not create a hard inquiry.

if you are an authorized user on her card no pull will be given

One of the perk being authorized user is: They don't even request SSN......So no HP or SP for authorized user.....
