I applied forzync when they still offered it, declined. Applied for green, declined. Finally got in with everyday card. Seems backwards for me.

But presumably this was over some period of time (zync went away quite a while before Everyday was available) so your credit report might have improved a lot from Amex's view point (see if you can get a charge now!).

Also, it's possible that there is a push on the Everyday (want to show good figures) so the standards might be slightly lower than usual.

Not sure why charge should be easier than credit, though apparently there is empirical evidence for it. People have said that the risk is lower because charge cards have to paid off each month, but that makes little sense to me, as the concern is precisely someone choosing not to pay! So you have an internal limit on the charge, a credit limit on the cc (and in any case any individual charge can be declined) so it seems the risk should be up to that limit.

It might be that because of their history, Amex feels that there algorithms are more accurately predictive for charge cards, so are more willing to take lower-scoring applicants who appear to be OK.

I do think they are/were pushing the ED and EDP cards heavy, because of this i think they lowered the requirements for the card. i have no evidence that this is what is happening but that is just the feeling i get.

If you dont mind sharing, when did you app for the ED and what was your CR looking like?

sorry i was unclear from what i can tell from reading other posts they have been pushing those cards. I haven't actually applied for either of them . I am waiting for PRG offer before i app for anything more especially amex.

Amex likes:

stability - i.e. not a lot of recently opened accounts, not many inquiries and no overtuilization. They also like to see existing accounts that are at least a year old (and probably longer).

They have an internal scoring formula which takes many factors, including income, into account. Assuming none of the stability problems above apply to you, I'd start with the green, and build a relationship with them. Treat them right and they'll return the favor.

Everyone says charge cards but a lady at AMEX EO said the Blue was the easiest card to get out of everything, but who know and as always YMMV. Based on the posts here usually people will get a Green and immediately app for the Delta Gold to get 2 cards on 1 HP, and then PC the Delta to a BCE/P.
