Agreed. One time I purchase a cell phone and then returned it due to defects discover dispute (I even called the EO) can't do anything but say "sorry" just because that the merchant insists that they haven't received the return, where I actually had the proof of it.

Really Discover?

Last month I went to a trash dump to get rid of junk, recently opened a bakery for my DW and we had a lot of cleanup to do, and I paid $160 on my Discover card to dump. A week later I checked my account and there was a second charge for $81. **bleep**? So I immediately went back to the Eco Depot and asked for verification, which they couldn't do. In fact they had my original receipt and every one before and after the $81 receipt. In others words receipt 50,51,52,54 (just an example, the 53 receipt being the $81 charge) was completely deleted. So they couldn't do anything about it. I hit the dispute charge button online and was immediately reimbursed the money. Fast forward to yesterday, a month later, and the charge is put back on... ummmm ok. I then got an email stating that the place had verification and Discover was ever so kind enough to include it in the email. A receipt of the amount, signed by some random guy no where close to my name, and with the words "paid in cash" on the receipt. In fact the only reason it had a signature was because the place requires it, promise there isn't contaminates in your dump. Seriously? What kind of garbage is that? (haha) You would think Discover would realize something didn't quite make sense there? Anybody else have a similar experience?

Receipt paid in cash so why did they charge your credit card? Any time I get a receipt and pay by credit card its say paid by credit card. I would call Discover and challenge it. If it says paid by cash I would say why the blank are you charging me I never had the charge in the first place it said it was paid in cash. Good Luck!

I'm going to call here in a bit and jump all over this. The first thing I looked for was the last four numbers of my card, which are no where on the receipt, most places will have that on there or maybe even the type of card paid with and that's not on their either. I don't get this at all, very frustrating to say the least.

You would think they would verify that receipt a bit more than, "Oh, the merchant has a receipt!" So much for being on the consumer's side!

I havn't had an issue with any of my CC's yet. But, I had a nasty issue with Wester Union money transfer for an Ebay purchase, before PayPal was really in place as the main method of payment. After filing the fraud with Ebay, Ebay told me to contact my bank first to see what they could do. My bank reversed the amount back into my account. Western Union wasn't happy and started calling me 10+ times a day telling me what I did was illegal. I was a terrible person. I need to pay them back right this second. I told them I did what Ebay told me to do and if they had a problem they should contact the customer who did not send the product to get the money they feel they deserve. After all, they should verify their customers contact information is legit because if they aren't the solution to the fraud then they are the problem. I finally told them if they call one more time I would be filing a harrassment suit against them so they actually ended up trying to send the account to collections. A quick print out of the case with Ebay and a letter from my bank took care of that real fast. I have always been a fan of a bank who is actually on your side when it comes to consumer protection.

Personally, I would continue to escalate it with Discover. Receipt or not, you did not authorize your card for that purchase. Thus, it is a fraudulent purchase.
