I've had a Juniper card for over a year now, with the same crummy $400 credit line. Recently, I asked for a CLI and they've rejected my request each time (I inform them that I DO NOT want a hard inquiry).

So I do a google search of credit cards that use TU as their source of credit worthiness. I find the Hooters card as well as the Carnival (via Juniper) Sea Miles card. My inquiries on EX & EQ are up around 5 so I decide that these two cards will suffice just fine. I currently hold a Crap 1 card ($4k CL) and a US Bank ( 5k CL) card. I'm approved for Hooters at $3.5k and I'm just wondering how much i'll be approved for with Carnival. My TU score is at 678(myfico score) so I feel pretty good about it.

You can tell by now I was denied for my Carnival card. I got an e-mail stating one of their reasons (they leave an option there may be more), and I quote "We regret that we're unable to approve you for a credit card account due to the following reason(s):

Sufficient credit is available on your account issued by Barclays Bank Delaware "

I'm like, WTH??? I just spent the better part of a week on the phone and writing e-mails about how ridiculous a $400 CL is, and that it really is a useless credit card. It costs me around $130 just to fill up my truck for crying out loud. My action was I closed my Juniper MC today because they refused to increase my line. Now, I'm declined because they claim my CL with Juniper is sufficient??? Lol.

Anyway, the bottom line is I don't need Juniper but I wanted to pass this little gem along to you guys. They are really not a bad company as they give decent rates to people with less than perfect credit, however they are simply little bitches when it comes to raising your CL.

Good luck to everyone out there fighting the good fight.

Sorry it didn't work out for you, but if you don't need it, you don't need it. Your positive history will remain for 10 years, and the $400 probably wasn't helping your utilization much anyway.

Congrats on the new Hooters card!

I think Juniper would make a lot more money if they weren't so tight with their credit limits. Other than that I really had no complaints with them.

But come on, after a year of frequent use and zero lates, you had better raise the limits. Especially as my score went up over 100 points during this time, I have plenty of other options. Juniper, in my opinion, is making a bad business decision by refusing to grow with their customers. Hell, US Bank raised my limit by 3500 after three months. They also increased my overdraft line even though I didn't ask for it. That shows up as a revolving credit account as well. I've heard bad things about US Bank but personally for me they have been excellent and always treated me fairly. That is what will win you customer loyalty.

Some companies I will refuse to do business with, such as Amex, and now i've added Juniper to my list.

Juni/Barclay's just seems to be one of those weirdo issuers. I got a Trav MC in Jan 07 w/ a mid 550 score at best. They gave me a 2k limit -- my second highest at the time. (The other was a maxed out HSBC card @ 4.6k.) At the one year mark Juni took it to 3k.

I can't get Amex to BUDGE. I started at 1k in Sept 07 and I'm still there despite 2 requests for CLIs. They are my 2nd lowest TL, with only Old Navy below that at 500.

I like the Trav card, but I like it a lot more when I don't have to contact their CSRs. I'll probably drop the card when I get another travel rewards card with a decent limit (sorry Amex Delta Gold, we don't play well together).

One possible thing that I've seen on Juni/Barclays: they LOVE being your main squeeze. If you already have credit with other banks, especially if you have a decent amount of it, you won't get a whole lot from them.

But if you're among the semi-rare people with high scores and few open accounts, there is the potential to clean up with Juni/Barclays (witness Mrs. MV.)

While overall one should avoid closing credit cards, there are certain cards that can be thought of as the first stage of the "rocket" lifting you out of Bad Credit Hell. Orchard Bank is a prime example. They almost never grant CLIs. That "stage" ignites around 575, and by the time you pass 700, you can let it fall away.

Okay, the last time I requested a CLI my EX should have been 670.

Reasons:

-Your American Express card member risk score is too high.

-Your consumer credit bureau score is too low.

Reasons (Based on amex cardmember risk score):

-Accts not paid as agreed (17 total, 15 are student loans)

-Number of accts delinquent (17 I guess)

-Length of time accts have been established (oldest 17y10m, AAoA 5y9m)

-Too many recent credit checks

Reasons (The information rec'd from a consumer reporting agency scoring system):

-Low payments to balance ratio for your accounts and our experience with customers with similar behaviors (util at 5, max util on any card was 48% on a BT, mtg around 96% util and SL off the chart util)

-Your consumer credit report indicates high util of revolving credit accounts (bah!)

-Your consumer credit report indicates too many requests for credit during the last 6 months

Peas that is the same message I got when I was rejected for CLI at 60 days.

Weird thing is, my EX score has jumped from 651 to 704 since I got that card.

Yup, and mine went from 590'ish when I got the card to 670 now.

I was orig rejected Jan 1, tried again April 1.. and yet again on June 2.

(Sorry OP, I keep forgetting that this really is a Juni thread!)
